Could some of you who have the m1210 post up some video samples so we can see what kind of video quality the built-in cam can take. Thanks a bunch.

Check out abaxter's M1210 review. It has a sample video.

Towards the end of it. -
I did see that one, and it was the only one I could find when I read numerous threads. I was hoping to get some different types of video, including people talking into the camera to get a feeling for how well the microphone picks up sound.
-
the mic is very good, as good as any other logitech webcam. The only weakness is in low light, even with the low light booster on, and the brightness tweaked up...its just too grainy/noisy. BUT i still think its great.

[EDIT]
Ok Ive just uploaded 3 pictures I took im my living room. My internet is going very slow right now, so the video is taking its sweet old time uploading. Ill post it as soon as its ready.
Light from above, behind, and directly infront.
All celing light
Example of the "grainyness" in low light.

Ok finally finished uploading the video. Its 15 seconds long with sound.

sheff159, how is that Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Audio option you have on your M1210? What features does it provide by adding that option? Is it worth it?
-
I think its worth it. It adds more audio codecs, EAX capability with an EAX console. Things you can do in that console are add audio effects, like auditorium, stadium, etc. CMSS 3D, which allows you do "Stereo Widening", which makes your speakers sound go farther to the sides, it makes a big difference in speaker performance. Audio clean-up is the third option, it takes out all clicks and hisses in the audio, makes a huge difference in audio qualitly. And then time scaling, it lets you speed up and slow down the play speed without changing the audio's tone, good for sound mixing. You also get a graphic equilizer, sound mixer, wave studio, and advanced speaker controlls with the package. Ive listened to audio with the EAX options on and off and I can tell you it makes a big difference in audio quality. Definitly worth $25.

Interesting, so the machine will produce 'clicks' and 'hisses' without this upgrade? And there is an option to have this feature(s) on or off?
Strange to hear that this upgrade can make the actual laptop speakers project sound out further.
Is the sound crisp with nice highs and lows? It doesn't sound drowned out at all does it? -
I believe the clicks and hisses come from the media file, especially mp3's. So the software just cleans them up and cancles them out when its playing, so it makes everything sound crisper and cleaner, yes. There is and option to turn the EAX options on and off so you can hear the difference, and there is a big one.
Yeah I dont know how it works but the stereo widening thing does make the speakers project outwards a little better. You can set it to do that, be normal, or to make the sound narrower and kinda pointed only at you. But it sounds better, and you can hear it better at the sides with it at full widening.
I dont mean to say that these are high end speakers by any means. They're 2 small notebook speakers, but with the software upgrade it does sound alot better, and actually not too bad. Volume is also kind of low on them. In a quiet room I find 10%-15% (media direct show the volume %) to be plenty loud. But in a noisy room they can get a little drowned out at 100%. But its not bad. I guess the best way I can describe the sound without the upgrade is it having way to much treb, and bad quality. With the upgrade it dosent sound over trebed and it sounds alot smoother. Id say its definitly worth $25 to get, and even if you dont (I dont know why you wouldnt like better sound) you could always uninstall it. Its not like it was a ton of money or anything. -
How long can you record videos with the webcam? Say I want to record a 1hour lecture?
-
It all depends on your hard drive's size and the resolution/quality you want it in. I've got a 100gig hard drive so untill it gets full you can record as much as you want.
