i'm sure you guys have seen this page:

    http://www.dell.com/content/product...b_m1330?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=bundlestab

at the moment, the "best" option includes a $499 instant savings and while i agree that it's good, do you think there'll be an additional savings for, say, president's day or memorial day? since i'm not in a rush, i could wait but it's such a gamble since i don't know if this'll be as good as it gets.

    your thoughts? (and thank you.)

Seeing that they're offering discounts on all of their models (inspirons, vostros, xps), and the expiration date for the xps discount is set to Feb 29, 2008, my guess would be that yes, there will be further upcoming sales (perhaps as early as Presidents day).

That being said, IF they discount the M1330 further (which might not happen now that they are being offered with the new Penryn processors), I don't think it'll be nearly as extensive as the one that was available 3 weeks ago ($799 off + 10% Dell coupon + 12% EPP + 4% Dell Preferred = all stackable).

Being the impatient consumer that I am, I purchased mine three days ago with the current $499 off + 12% EPP + 4% and negotiated it down a further $100 off + free 9 cell battery.

And confirmed with the rep that should the price drop considerably in the next 3 weeks, I could just cancel my order and place a new order at the discounted price.

whoa! you got my head spinning! first of all, i'm sick over hearing about the amazing deal that's already expired. damn! but secondly, i'm surprised to read what you wrote. why? cuz i see the $499 off on their website but the 12% EPP? where'd you find that? and another 4%?

further, it's clear that calling them vs doing it online allows you to negotiate so that's definitely the way to go. amazing!

i do hope you'll have the time to write back cuz i'm pretty ready to buy and would hate it if i missed a good discount!

    thanks!

Believe me, everytime I run across any mention of the mythical (yet expired) $799 deal I feel like slicing my wrists with a vista install cd. So I feel your pain.

The 12% EPP is only attainable through employer/school discounts (and a few others, i believe), and the 4% is by financing the purchase through the Dell Preferred Member Program. [They check up on your company email + take a recording confirming that you work for X company, so you're out of luck there unless your company has a discount with them, or otherwise, my suggestion would be to google student discount codes, not that I'm, uhh, suggesting doing anything unethical/immoral here]

After that, it's up to the sales rep and your God-given talent to negotiate a buy. I spoke to two sales reps who would not budge a single dollar before speaking to a third one who offered the $100 off + free 9 cell battery.

But if I were in your position (with no hurry to purchase), I would probably wait a week or two to see what, if any, further deals are available for the XPS's. I would imagine they'll be offering further stackable discount codes and you might be able to save another $100-300. Either way, I would check the NBR deals & bargains forum everyday in addition to other discount news sites like techbargains.com or xpbargains.com

    Good luck nousername.

thanks for the quick reply. ha! yeah, thanks for letting me know that i'm not alone in my feeling of UGH! when i think about the missed deep discount! ouch!

yup, i'm not in a big rush so i'll take your advice and sit tight.

    thanks!

i believe it's 8% EPP if you keep it under $1,500.

You guys know nothing about that deal.

The EPP discount is technically available to only affiliates of Dell, but they don't ask for confirmation of your company nor do they need a recording. I was able to purchase an XPS m1330 with EPP (8%) and DPA discounts (4%) without mentioning anything about my company or college. Furthermore, I was able to downgrade my 3 years of warranty to one, and returned the included LoJack, netting me about another additional $350 in savings. My total for the laptop was about $850. Mind you this is the decked out T7500 with 3GB of RAM.

Yes, and it's 12% if your total is over $1500.

From what I've read (and personally confirmed with the sales rep), the warranty cannot be downgraded after the fact anymore. But yes, you were able to downgrade it two weeks ago before reps were instructed not to anymore.

As for the EPP, I guess it'll depend on which sales rep you end up with, because I personally had to confirm my work email address and they then took a recording of me confirming that I did indeed work for "x" company. Perhaps some are not so attention-detailed.

leetsauce, do you think these will go further down in price or should nousername pull the trigger before the current promotion disappears?

exactly my question! and although it's a moot point now, i thought the 3 yr warranty was a good thing since it would cover your investment if something should go wrong (and reading some of the comments here makes me think that i should expect to have to return it for x or y or z!

They will refuse to downgrade your warranty if you ask before your order ships. However, once you have the laptop in your hands, it will be much easier. And it's true, some reps are easier than others. There's been more reports of successful warranty removals recently, so your chances are now much higher.

I ordered my laptop through the website, and they didn't ask for EPP the affiliate. When I called concerning my order, they asked for my affiliate number and stuff, to which I simply told them "I don't know." They said, okay no problem, and proceeded to assist me with my order.

As for the promotions, it depends on how badly you need this. If you're in need of a laptop soon, this isn't a bad deal. But if you can, I suggest you wait for a better deal before pulling the trigger.

I just googled "Dell epp member Id" A bunch of employee Id's were found. I used one on the dell EPP website and order my 1530 with $619 off plus %12 epp discount. NOTHING was confirmed from dell, nor did I have a problem. I order a 1520 last year and did the same through a Delaware University MPP. Although I think most university programs do require you to have a university email, there are plenty that do not and will still provide the same discounts...when in doubt, JUST GOOGLE IT!

I got the $799 off +12% EPP discount but where I work we have the perks card and I had to give my card number to the sales rep to get the discount. I had no clue about the 4% for preferred account financing because thats what im doing. Off I feel slightly screwed but oh well, still got a pretty good deal.
