I received a replacement for my m1330 because I had the grainy CMO LED LCD screen. The new one I received has the Toshiba screen which I like better. Unfortunately, the new one makes the whining noise! Can I swap the lcd from the new replacement and put it in my original unit? If I do that, I'll have a whine-free, good LCD m1330.

I asked Dell if they could send a tech to swap the MB and they said no. I asked if I could swap the MB myself, and they said that would void the warranty.

Will swapping the LCD void the warranty? Would they know?

    Thanks!

They would know, because every single piece of your notebook has serial number on it, just a few paper checks and all will be clear. But the fact that swapping LCD will void the warranty or not depends on Dell's mood :D

Valkyrie is right. They run a scan program that lists the hardware on the laptop and its serial numbers. They compare this against the original configuration. They will know. Whether or not they decide to do something is risk you would have to take, but they would know.

I had mine swapped.. My original system had the Toshiba, and the replacement a CMO, so I asked whether I could swap it myself. They sent over an engineer at that...

No problems with Dell support so far...

Dell will not care if they are same parts. End of story.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed Dell to ask if I could swap the lcd or motherboard and they said ok, and that it would not void the warranty. I did a search and couldn't find any directions to take apart the laptop. I'm going to swap the lcd as I think that would be easier than swapping the MB. Is that correct? Anyone know of directions to remove the lcd assembly? Do you think I could get Dell to send a tech to do it for me?
