    Hi,

Since the 1330 lid/cover loves to pick up finger prints easily, I use Windex to
wipe it before leaving for a flight/work.

What I've started to notice is that if you look closely, the black paint job becomes somewhat grayish in areas. Rather, the black paint dims and you begin to notice a white, shiny texture over the black paint. It's not instantly noticeable though.

Cleaning the keyboard and palm rest works out fine in terms of results.

Does anyone have the same problem?
Is there a recommended cleaner for notebooks, which won't damage the paint job on lids, palm rest and etc?

    Thanks,
    Stan

All you need is a microfibre cloth. Just rub away gently and you don't need any solution.

Stop using windex immediately on the lid. It's incredibly corrosive and not meant for use with paint. The gray is from the black paint being dissolved away from the grey plastic. I find that just wiping it gently with the edge of my hand occasionally removes some of it. Isn't really a big deal to me. The other damage of windex is that if it gets inside the groove and leaks into the LCD panel, you'll likey screw that up too. Just leave it be.

As was mentioned, use a microfiber cloth.....slightly damp if necessary. (Emphasis on the word SLIGHTLY)

    Hi,
My name is Rick and I am part of Dells online community team, I just wanted to chime in and add that Windex and other cleaners are also very damaging to the LCD screen itself as well. I have seen many customers ruin the plastic coating on the LCDs by using harsh chemicals. Damp, non-abrasive cloths, or specially designed products will help ensure that you don't damage your screen.

This should be the OFFICIAL "How do I clean my lid" thread.

.....One thread to rule them all!! :spinny:

(after coming back and reading this, I didn't feel it had quite the amount of sarcasm I wanted it to......so in case you're wondering, I'm being sarcastic)

Thank you all for the replies.

I'll start using a microfiber cloth then, dampened a little if needed, on the lid, screen and other parts then. Good thing I'm getting a new replacement.

I know this may sound a tad dumb but does anyone know if its safe to use those little kits you can get with eye glasses? The little shammy and solution.

It probably is safe, but it's safER just to use a damp microfiber cloth.
