Been lurking and getting some great info from the forum, so took the plunge with a referb m1330 last week; T8300, Visat Home Prem., 4meg, etc. Since then been tweaking and updating. After installing Vista SP1, my system info went from saying 3.5 installed to the full 4. Anyone else getting this and is my system now using all 4megs?

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
You still cannot use or see all 4GB of memory in your x86 OS.
It's just Microsoft's way of saying, "Hey, you have 4GB of memory currently installed." Kind of like "Hey, you're CPU is an Intel 'blah blah blah'."
Open up Task Manger and you'll see that you still have less than 4GB of total memory. -
Yep...SP1 shows the amount of memory installed, not how much memory is available to use.

your system will show that it is using 4GB of Ram, but 32bit architecture cannot do it physically. So the system is using the same memory amount as before SP1 (cca 3,5GB). This is only to "fool" the users to make them belive that you are using it all. The system now knows, how much you have, but cannot use more than 3,5GB b/c of the architecture.

Thanks. I see that in Task Manager. Just wondering. I figured nothing changed in the 32bit OS.

You could run Windows 3.1 well with 4megs of RAM
