My graphics card peaks at 103 degrees C, this seems very high but is this normal? It's that temperature no matter what drivers I use.

Mine peaks around 95-100C. I think I saw somewhere that the thermal threshold was in the 120's Celcius, so I'm not worried, but of course, the lower the better (in terms of how long it will last).

That's very hot for an 8400m GS. I would suggest cleaning out your laptop.

Make sure the readings are legit.

ATITool, Ntune, and Rivatuner provides same #, so I would go w/ those numbers.

    It's brand new...

This is under full load, not idle remember. I get 97/98 C in ATITool.

    Idles at 66 C.

    23.5 C ambient temp

Using 0.26 version of ATITool I get 10C lower than actual reading compared to GPU-Z. So, your temperatures might actually be 107/108. Do you mind downloading GPU-Z and posting the temperature difference here? If the 10C difference has been fixed in the later versions of ATITool, I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks!

I get the exact same temps in ATITool 0.27 beta 4, GPU-Z and HWMonitor.

    65 idle
102 full load (CSS performance test looped, turns out ATITool doesn't stress the CPU at all so the GPU is cooler, hence the temp differences)

Holy crap, that's really hot man especially for a laptop.

I own an m1730 w/ sli 8800M's and they top out around 75C.

I'm not saying your temps are out of the ordinary for your laptop model, but damn that's hot.

Do you raise the back end of your laptop to allow the intake fans to function correclty? Most laptops suffocate their intake fans which lead to massive overheating of system components.

I would seriously recommend a zalman ZM-NC1000 to bring your laptop temps in check.

    http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=130

There's also laptop feet on the market that can be used to raise your laptop without having to use something crappy like a cd case or stacked bottle caps.

the m1330 is a very slim laptop so I expect the temps to be high, I just want to see if it's the same as other m1330 owners. My laptop is on a smooth wooden desk with the 9 cell battery so the rear is just over 1cm off the table and no obstructions.

My processor maxes out at 58 C, it's just the graphics card that gets hot.

Edit: I'd much rather mess with thermal paste and pads than a separate laptop cooler.

That is true, ATItool does not stress the CPU, but you can try running orthos in parallel for maximum heat output. Since ATITool 0.26 has been working fine for me for overclocking, I did not want to try a newer beta version. Thanks for the information!

You could try cleaning and reinstalling the CPU/GPU heatsink with a better thermal interface. I think it might help.

I'm upgrading the processor tomorrow but the GPU has a thermal pad so I can't replace that with decent thermal paste.

When I reinstalled the heatsink of an 8600M-GT in an Acer laptop, there was a small metal sheet between the heatsink and the GPU core. Thermal paste was applied on both sides of the sheet. Actually, there was also a similar metal sheet on the CPU heatsink of my Inspiron. In both cases, I discarded the metal sheet, cleaned both CPU/GPU core and heatsink with alcohol pad, and finally applied a small drop of good quality thermal paste (AS-5 for CPU and Tuniq TX-2 for GPU since I had these available at different times). I saw lower temperatures by 4-5C. If the thermal interface is defective, you can see even higher temperature drops.

It depends on how thick the thermal pad is but I don't think that will work in this case. I'll see tomorrow when I replace the CPU.

You definitely can't replace the GPU pad with thermal paste. Shame.

I have the same temps to I used Ntune and it showed the same thing to even when I first start the laptop, even when it is cold I still get the temps from it! I think that they aren't reading the temps right I think there is a problem with the program because of the temps bring same when I first start it and touch the bottom and it is cold too! extremely strange I think???

Mine is cool to the touch at the bottom too and the graphics cards heat up to operating temperature very quickly. It turns out my graphics was idling at 67/69 because the fan was on minimum speed. Now it's a bit warmer the fan is usually on its second speed setting and it idles at 61/62

The m1330 is a far smaller laptop with a small shared heat pipe for the CPU and GPU and a thermal pad on the GPU. It's a real shame you can't apply your own thermal paste on the GPU :(

I don't want to know if it's hot compared to other models, I want to know how it compares to other m1330's.

Mine is at 61° Celsius which I get when Idling which is around 120° F I think and it showed the maximum I've gotten but don't remember cause I unsinstalled it because of the wierd degrees I was getting so I just figured to get rid of those programs for now.

CPUID doesn't need installing and it's what I use to measure temps.

I don't believe the 45C GPU idle temp though.

Just hit 97C (GPU) and 80C (CPU) playing HL2 for 2 hours. High, but apparently normal.
