I'm going to be ordering an M1330 to replace my broken Asus W3J in the near future, and was wondering what the battery life tradeoff of getting the 8400 as opposed to sticking with the integrated x3100 is.
I'm thinking that maybe I'll save the $100 now and put it towards getting the Asus XG station when it comes out (or something similar). I do like to game occasionally, and even upgrading to the 8400 doesn't really make the m1330 a viable gaming platform.
Thoughts?

Integrated card will give you an extra 15-30mins battery life and notebook will be cooler and somewhat more reliable. Its not worth using the 8400 for gaming. Get yourself a real gaming machine.
I suggest going with the x3100. I have both x3100 and 8400m GS and find the x3100 more than sufficient to run everything else other than gaming -
I wouldn't miss the 8400gs.
I originally wanted to spec in the X3100 but wasn't able to do so for my current build.
In comparison to my Santa Rosa D630 with the X3100, the D630 will give me another hour of runtime if set up to similar power usage, both on 9 cells. This is despite the Latitude's faster CPU. Wifi on, screen at 1/2 brights. I will get about 4hrs/5 hours on the M1330/D630
I would guess you'd be getting at least another 30mins of use with the 6 cell.
The 8400Gs is suspected to be unreliable (look at the list of M1330 GPU failures) and does not give enough power to run high demanding games.
