Ok so i just got my new laptop and i am trying to figure out how best to configure my desk. I have an external monitor that i am trying to use and i am just curious what other people are doing for their desk setups. Post pictures of your setups!

This is my setup. The monitor is a 20-inch Dell, and the mouse is a Logitech, if you were curious. I could easily set this up for dual-monitors (and I sometimes do, depending on what I'm doing), but I usually don't because it tends to look needlessly ostentatious.

Looks nice. I hate how the headphone jack is in the front though...

nice setup

When I get my next laptop, I plan on getting a new monitor and then using a Logitech Alto Connect laptop stand so I have a dual monitor setup in a way. I think I'd have to get a new desk though because I have two hutches and it is a corner desk. It would be similar to what jerbils posted, a flat, rectangular desk with the laptop next to it on a stand using both monitors.

Thanks for the comments, guys. The headphone jack isn't all that bothersome, and frankly I don't even usually have it plugged into the XPS. My speakers are usually connected to my MacBook for iTunes.

Here's my setup, although i have an m1530...
Dell m1530 @ 1680x1050
Samsung SyncMaster 205BW @ 1680x1050 connected via HDMI
Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD Arm
Altec Lansing 2.1 Powered Speaker System
Logitech G15 Keyboard
Logitech MX518 Gaming Mouse
Logitech Alto Connect Laptop Stand
as you can see, the cable coming from the headphone jack is more or less covered by the keyboard lcd, so its really not bothersome...Attached Files:

Jerbils and Drumguy00,
Those are awesome setups! Hopefully next year, when I get rid of some of my stuff, and get a new desk, I should have more space to enjoy such clean setups. I recently bought the Logitech Alto Connect stand, and I will probably hookup a DiNovo Edge keyboard to the setup. -
thanks.
I'm a big fan of the Alto Connect stand. My desk is kinda small and without it I couldn't fit my G15 keyboard.
The only problem I have with it is that the USB hub is limited, despite being AC powered. I have my mouse plugged into the keyboard, and the keyboard into the hub and my ipod connected and it works just fine. But, when I attach my HS Passport, it goes over the power limit and keeps disconnecting and connecting again.
Its not a deal breaker for me, but it is a little frustrating because I want to get a m WD MyBook to keep connected all the time, and I'm concern that it my have problems staying connected... -
Drumguy,
Do you think attaching another powered usb hub to the connect stand could fix this issue? -
Those all look very nice. When I was palying with my brother's m1330 (waiting for mine), we hooked it up to my plasma. I think I will do that for now. Wireless keyboard and mouse while hooking it up to the tv via hdmi. But I might have to switch it up like Jerbils. Very nice!

Although I have no space (nor the money) for a plasma, I am hoping to pick up a nice 20-24" widescreen LCD (the Dell 2408WFP is on this list) but this will have to wait for some time...
-
I haven't had a chance to mix and match different combinations to see if I can get it to work. I'm guessng that part of the problem was the my ipod was charging/syncing while it was connected, so thats 4 major items drawing power from the hub. When I get home tonight, I'll see what happens if I connect my WD passport without the ipod and see if it works.
I'm also hoping that since the WD MyBook is powered separately, it will be able to stay connected, even with the ipod in...
If not, I may have to pick up another powered hub...
Also Booji, I absolutely love my Samsung LCD...
If you aren't too attached to the Dell panel. keep an eye on the daily specials at Newegg.com, they occasionally have some really good deals on Samsung panels. -
Thanks for the advice drumguy00. I look forward to seeing how the powered hub works out. Also, I will look into those samsung panels at NewEgg.

Has anyone seen a stand where the external monitor sits on top, and the laptop sits below? I think this might be ideal for those of us that use an external monitor, external mouse, and external keyboard setup.
EDIT: I found a couple of them:

Dell also sells a D-View monitor stand that is to be used with the D-series port replicators (although this is not required). The only problem with these is that you cannot use it on a dual monitor setup with your laptop screen.
