Hi, I am considering m1330, but I am unsure about the memory slot configuration:

1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz [Included in Price]

I don't want to go with 2GB from dell as it's cheaper to do it myself, so I am hoping for 1x1GB. Is this 1x1 or 2x512mb?

    Thanks

You can still go with 512 mb if you can and add a 2GB stick that will give you 2.5GB

A few other threads were suggesting that having the same kind of stick in both the slots gives a better performance.

There is a small benefit to equal sticks, but not really. The technology (dual-channel) really does not matter anymore as its prime time passed a long time ago.

Get 1 GB (it'll be 2x512 MB) from Dell and find a deal on 4 GB (2 x 2GB) for $150. I saw one recently for $130 after rebate. Unless Dell can come close to that.
