I noticed yesterday that my LED display on my m1330 has a strange horizontal line very close to the top. It is difficult to describe. The top right corner of the screen is perfectly fine, but as you move your eyes across(horizontally) to the left, a gray translucent shade is present. It becomes gradually thicker until you reach the top right corner, where it is about a millimeter or 2 thick. It doesnt affect my usage really at all, but I am wondering what it is and whether anything should be done about it.

I have attached 2 images that I took to the best of my ability. Please forgive the quality. In the first image, I attached 3 photos I took of the top-left of the screen to the top-right with a white background image. The second image is with a window header at the top-right(shaded) corner of the screen.

I don't know much about screens but I would suggest that you call dell, you could probably get a replacement screen

I don't have that on my LED screen. I suggest you get a replacement.

Could it be that the screen is just not seated correctly and just needs to be adjusted?

I googled it, but surprisingly I couldn't find anything on this happening with others or any reasons for it.

@ darthsat, it has nothing to do with how the screen is seated! If it did, then the line would move if you turned the laptop upside down, which I can guarantee it wont.

I suggest you call dell and get a new screen!

Oh cool, they send replacement screens?
When I ordered my replacement m1330, I asked dell what I should do if I get a screen that sucked (had dead pixels, backlight bleeding, colored lighting, etc.) they said I would have to order another replacement...they didn't mention anything about replacing the screen and only the screen

Yes, a Dell tech will come here on friday with a new LED display and swap it with my current one in my m1330. I hope it isn't too complicated a procedure.

Darth (and others who have experience with this),
What was the outcome of this? Did Dell or the Tech ever explain what the issue was? I can't seem to see/find the picture(s) you attached, but from your description it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing, only my top left of the screen is affected.

I'm having some other issues addressed at the same time, but regardless, the Dell CSR insists I send my entire laptop to them so they can "ensure the connections are correct". They've also accused me of dropping the laptop... perhaps I did a poor job of describing the problem.

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! :)

    *bump*!

I sent my m1330 in with (what sounds like) this identical issue, and some others that involved the palmrest *and* the screen.

All other issues were fixed, except this "gray" or darker tiny wedge of a line on the top-left of the screen. The light bleeding thru the bottom (hot-spots), the flickering when the screen brightness wasn't at max, was fixed. But this strange line still exists.

I would just like to know the outcome of the Dell repair, if this was resolved (running out of days on my warranty  )
