Question....Need a lightweight, small second laptop for travel...how much bigger is the M1330 than the M1210? it looks about one inch...but has anyone compared the two as far as typing and size? I've read the reviews but a head to head would be interesting...thanks.

M1330 looks flatter and, urgh, larger surface area than M1210 to me. But the M1330 has a bigger, nicer screen (also higher performance). For weight, M1330 seems lighter to me (both in 9-cell)

For typing, just make sure some keys are in different position...

Check out this review, it has a side-by-side comparison (in every angle).

the m1330 design are probably the best that ever came out of dell. good to see them keeping up with the competition. for a notebook to be compared to sony's SZ and apples MB is an accomplishment in itself. i wouldnt be too concerned with the size of the notebook as its just about an inch bigger than an A4 sheet of paper

    Get the m1330
It is thinner and it weighs less than the m1210

anyways, the only place to get the m1210 is places like ebay...

Dell outlet is what I was looking at about $1K but they have M1330 for the same price...seems the M1330 is the way to go...Also does anyone else notice that it looks like 12" screen are a dying breed?

The M1330 is the perfect compromize. Slots in between the often too heavy 14.1 inch (like my D630) and the almost too small/underpowred 12 inch variants.

In laptop terms, the M1210 platform is quite a bit smaller. For 12" notebooks, the M1210 calling card is the higher powered components compared to other ultraportables (although the M1210 is more suitably classed at the lighter end of the Thin and light family) with low powered core solo CPUs.

Since the M1330 is an upgraded platform with additional features (HDMI), if they were about the same price at the outlet store, this is pretty much a no brainer.

12" is far from being a dying breed. It will probably be relegated to the very exclusive market, where size and weight (or in this case, the lack off) is paramount over all other factors.

I for one will love to see another 12" ultraportable like the driveless D430 but with more powerful components, (regular core dual, 5400/7200rpm drives, etc. Unfortunately, that sort of combo does not exist, so the M1330 is the next best thing. I use a 22inch LCD anyway, screen size is not a deciding factor for me.

If they are both same price, then the obvious choice is M1330. However check the specs, because outside US you can still buy brand new M1210s from DELL, but there is a considerable price difference between similarly configured M1210s and M1330s.

BTW 12” by no means a dying breed, in fact ultra portables are getting smaller and smaller each day (i.e Asus EeePC).

i bought a m1210 a couple months ago before the m1330 was on the outlet, and its a pretty sweet laptop. It was actually less than $1K, and spec'ed out nice with a gf7400, tl200, and 7.2K drive.

I've got both the m1210 and m1330 (work and personal). The m1330 is slightly larger, but it's thinner. Weight wise, both are very close and neither "seems" heavier than the other.

I find the m1210 to be a little easier to tote around with one hand as compared to the m1330, but both are equally portable.

I prefer using my m1330 more as I think it's a much sexier machine, and the screen is larger (even though the resolution is the same).

I just got an M1210 on ebay $895 shipped my specs are in my sign. and i love this little system now I don't have to carry me big E1705 around I was looking at the M1330. But my turn offs was the price there wasn't any with good specs for around $1000 and i burn a bunch of cds and dvds and didn't want to worry about the slot loading dvd drive. But if i had the money i probably get a m1330 instead.

Why would you need to worry more about a slot load drive than one of the standard drives?
