I admit I overestimated the ability of laptop batteries. I would have thought that we'd be seeing gaming laptops with 10 hours of battery life on them. That was my mistake when I went looking for laptops. I'm not a hardcore gamer. But I am seeking a laptop that will at least run 3d games, even if on the lowest setting. But another priority is battery life. Are there any laptops out there with a 5+ hour battery life? I'm mainly going to be using this to take notes during college, surf the internet, and watch movies. Any help given will be greatly appreciated.

From my findings, I've boiled down my list of choices to two options, but I'm open to more if anyone has a recommendation. But at this point the options that I've found are the Asus G1, the Thinkpad R60, or the Dell M1330. The reason why I would go with the Asus G1 is because it's the highest rated on Newegg, and for the most part I trust a product when it's reviewed by a mass base of customers. I read a few posts with people saying that Dell's m1330 is the best laptop for what I'm looking for. How much battery life do you think I'd get out of it supposing I get a 9 cell lithium ion battery but also if I choose to get the nVidia 8400 Go (as opposed to onboard), a 7200RPM harddrive, and I'm running it on medium brightness? I dont know if the proclaimed 7+ hours that's advertised is whether or not their considering regular brightness settings or whether that's just on a bare minimum onboard video and standard 5400 rpm harddrive. What battery life should I expect from the configuration that I'm looking for (8400 Go and 7200RPM and medium brightness on an 9-cell)?

Someone also recommended that if I'm looking for long laptop battery life, I should look into one of these http://www.epowerpad.com/ . I read some reviews on them, and apparently they have a high failure rating. Anyone have any good suggestions for a reliable alternative? I really wouldnt mind carrying one of these things around. They're expensive and all, but I'd be more than happy to pay the price if it'll help me out.

Also, the m1330 comes with a Core 2 Duo. I never do CPU intensive tasks. In fact, the only game that I want to play on my laptop doesnt even take advantage of dual core. What kind of cpu socket is on this motherboard, and is it possible to downgrade to one that would maybe eat up less battery life?

Anyways, any help given will be appreciated. I dont care about weight at all, nor do I care about whether I should go with ati or nvidia or amd or intel. They're all good to me, as long as it works then I'm happy. My main interests are longetivity with medium brightness settings and being able to run a few 3d games at low settings with an okay framerate.

You should really check out the new asus line coming out, they have decent graphics, but i dont know about battery life, maybe they fixed that in these refresh santa rosa versions.

Other than that, i really think the m1330 is the best choice, with a 9 cell battery you should get plenty of juice.

Other than that, how about the Sony FZ? I was considering that one also, but i dont like 15 inch screens, too big for me.

If you like 15.4, then go with sager 3+ hrs of battery life. Much better graphics then the 1330

I dont care about screen size, as long as it's bigger than 10". And good graphics arent as high of a priority as battery life for me, I'd rather than 5+ hours of battery life on 20 frames per second on low graphics settings than 3-4 hours of battery life on 60 frames per second on high graphics settings.

No machine will game for 5 hours... period. Sorry... get over it. The m1210 will push out 6 typing and browsing. You'll get maybe get 3 or so gaming. Look at other stuff and you'll get down into the 1.5 hour range.

Why the hell would you wanna game on a battery anyways...

I never said I was gonna game for 5 hours. I said that I wanted a laptop that could stay running for a while so that I could surf the internet and take notes longer than alot of other laptops, and had the ability to barely run games at poor performance. Whenever I play a videogame it's only for an hour at a time maximum.
