Not sure what to file this under but the only noise my notebook makes is a constant harddrive sound and the HD button is blinking at the front of the laptop.

Any solutions to this? My specs are in my sig. 5 day old laptop.

On an urelated note, is there a dedicated "sleep" button. I see some icon next to the microphone jack but its not clickable.

Since it's a new laptop, it's your system adjusting to your usage patterns (quick fetch etc). If not, it's likely Vista's indexing services. Give it some time to run its course and see if it gets better. Otherwise do a search on these forums to see how to turn "vista indexing off".

As for sleep, you can customize the power switch button on your computer (just above the keyboard) through the power options menu (right click on the battery icon on your task bar). I think the 'switch' you are referring to is the SD card reader. Push it in, and a piece of plastic will pop out. You can read memory cards in there...but keep the plastic in if you don't use it to stop dust getting in there.
