It seems my 'A' key is starting to rub off, anyone got this problem with their keys? I searched the forums but couldnt find anything regarding the issue.

Help would be VERY appreciated!!

well there's nothing you can really do...the lettering is rubbing off and thats it.

You could call Dell and explain the situation then ask them to send you a spare 'A' key?

    Ah, ok cheers.

Yes, I wasnt exactly rooting for a replacement ^^ but a spare key sounds like a plausible road to go down. Its not a big deal tbh but I was wondering if it was a prevalent issue. (As if m1330 doesnt have it's fair share...) i.e Dell should look into the issue.

    Thanks again, Dave.

I saw it in a post with one of the initial machines...

You may be able to get them to replace the keyboard if you wanna take that route but...well...that constitutes a brief dissassembly.

I'm kind of wishing that there was a keyboard condom like they have for Macs to keep this from happening.

    Hear that, Dell? o_O

Ya I always wonder, by now, why each and every laptop keyboard isnt water/spill proof? Its not a big thing but sure as heck...there are enough dead computers because of this.

I know, I know Andrew!!! Yea Thinkpad!

It's an item failing under warranty, Dell will replace the entire keyboard. Easy fix. :)

My M1330 keys are fine but my 2 yr old D610 has many keys with the letters worn off. One thing I have also noticed is that left-shift, A, and S keys have some curved wear marks like scratches in the plastic - it indicates that I am somehow hitting those keys with my fingernails not the skin. Maybe that is true in your case and has accelerated the wear. You might be able to cut your nails or change your typing style to reduce the wear.

I agree, all keyboards should be spill and oil proof. I find its when the keyboard is a lighter colour than the lettering. My 640M has no issue. The keys are black and lettering white. But on silver keyboards with black lettering, that's a different story.

Dell may look at this as a matter of normal wear and tear, not "failing under warranty".

He could always them them that he cannot find the 'A' key on his keyboard.... I'm sure if I gave a laptop to my grandma w/o the 'A' inscribed she wouldn't know what to do.

No, but 'failing through design' isn't something the user should expect to put up with either on an expensive XPS unit.

Ambi-light keyboards for the win! :)

She'd probably be smart enough to put a sticker on the key which has an "A" on it.

Had wear twice on my XPS, Dell replaced the keyboard both times. No questions asked.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Work is annoyingly sporadic atm so its difficult to call someone out but if the issue does persist (with other keys vanishing) I'll give them a shout.

For now I guess I'll just keep reminding my folks where the 'A' resides :)

    Dave.
