Hey my m1330 is on its way. I only order with a gig to save money. I'm going to be ordering 4. I'm wondering whether its worth it to pay more for the 800mhz versus the 667mhz. I've overclocked my gaming rig and it seems to make a difference. WHat do you guys think I should do?

Yes that is correct, Santa Rosa cant fully use 800mhz ram.It downclocks it to 667mhz. Look at the HOT Ram Deals thread for great prices on DDR2-667 ram.

I asked a dell rep and waited for about 30 mins for him to find an answer. He said it did support it. And when I look at crucial.com, it says it can support it if you search by system.

Please don't mistake 800Mhz RAM as not working, it'll work - it'll just be clocked at 667Mhz and not 800Mhz.

As for what RAM to get, I just ordered myself some of this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144066

    That's what I'd recommend, it's a good buy after a rebate...and it's super high quality.

Yes, but GeIL's RAM is 10 times better than OCZ's, and has heatsinks on it too if you're worried about cooling. As they always say, you get what you pay for ;)

I'd much rather pay the extra $40 to get the better quality stuff...

I don't know where you are getting the 10 times better part from. In my experience, both Geil and OCZ are reputable brands in the memory market. Both companies make extremely good RAM for desktops. Also, how much heat can heatsinks actually dissipate in a laptop computer. The memory slots are pretty confined and have limited air flow. This is much different in a desktop computer, but I am willing to bet that they make almost no difference in a notebook computer. Plus, your "You get what you pay for" lines also does not make sense because all the other vendors that sell this OCZ kit have it for the same price if not more than your Geil set. Frys just seems to have a good price for it. Heck, it might even be a pricing error. You can check it out in from this link: http://www.google.com/products?um=1&hl=en&q=OCZ2MV6674GK&scoring=p

In the end both sets have lifetime warranties from reputable RAM companies, so saying something is 10 times is simply a joke. I was just trying to save you some money and not have to go through a rebate. But in the end, to each their own, I guess.

I'd be more comfortable with OCZ - their customer service is just absolutely amazing. And no, Santa Rosa does not support 800MHz RAM speeds - DDR2-800 will be downclocked to 667MHz, so you're paying extra for no performance improvement.

man I should have jumped on that 4 gigs. The link doesn't seem to be working and it was a sweet price. Anyone else know where to get 2x2gb for that price?
