Hi guys,
I have a quick question regarding the m1330. Right now I can the following for $2,438.05 (including tax) with my EPP discount:
Now i'm interested in purchasing by the end of November. Does anyone think I will be able to snag a better deal before then?Code:XPS M1330 Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache) OPERATING SYSTEM(S) Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate Edition System Color Tuxedo Black Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz LCD and Camera Slim and Light LED Display with VGA Webcam Video Card 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8400M GS Hard Drives Size: 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 8.1 Combo or DVD+RW Drive CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW Drive) Sound Options Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition Wireless Networking Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card Office Productivity Software (Pre-Installed) No Productivity software pre-installed Anti-Virus/Security Suite (Pre-installed) No Security software pre-installed Primary Battery 6 cell Primary Battery and 9 cell additional Lithium Ion Battery Hardware Support Services DellCare Value Dial-Up Internet Access No ISP requested Power Options Dell Slim 65W Spare Auto/Air/AC Adapter Fingerprint Reader No Fingerprint Reader Bluetooth and Wireless USB Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR) Dell Digital Entertainment No Entertainment software pre-installed Camera Panel Slim and Light LCD with Tuxedo Black Casing and Camera XPS M1330 Processor Branding Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Labels Windows Vista Premium Datasafe DataSafe included with DellCare Service bundle
As a side note, if anyone remembers the horrid line issue with the I9300 screens, i'm the guy who ran dellverticalline.com. That site was a huge help for Dell so I might be able to play on that if I can get a decent rep on the phone.
Thanks,
Andrew

You can get similar spec'ed one for 1800 w/ 3 yr warranty from Ebay.
I got one for 1875 from ebay seller lotusmin123 when the system just came out.
He sells them for 1799 now. I don't think anyone can beat that.
Just type on M1330 LED on ebay search, and you will see him selling one there.
GL.
His systems only comes w/ 1gb ram, so you will have to upgrade yourself. -
I've never bought a notebook from ebay before. Would there be any problems with the warranty since I'm not the one who actually purchased the system from dell?
Thanks,
Andrew -
I got the M1330 locally from him since his price back then was 1975, but if I had paid cash via face to face transaction, he would give me some discount(1875 was cash price).
Only negative thing I can think (considering you did get what you paid for), is you won't be able to return the laptop for a refund.
You have to becareful with lot of sellers out there though. I'm only suggesting the guy since I bought one from him before.
When you are buying a dell laptop from 2nd source, always ask for a service tag so you can check the system's specs, and warranty info on dell's website, and always use creditcard source via paypal incase the seller is a jackass.
Dell outlet is also great on prices if buying from Dell pleases you more. -
Hmm, I think i'm going to have to purchase directly from dell on this one because I know there a few issues that this model has been known to have. It wouldn't be the first time I've had to get a refund on a dell.
Thanks for the heads up on the ebay seller though.
Thanks,
Andrew -
Check the Dell outlet first though. I personally think 2.4k is bit too high for the system. Hell, I think 1875 I paid was too much at this point lol.
The system I bought for 1875 is on my sig, but ram was only 1gb, and take off the intel turbo memory which I bought online. Oh and it came w/ Vista premium, not Ultimate. -
yer and vista ultimate!!! thats just a overpriced rip... home premium has basically all the features of ultimate... and its way cheaper
-
Only reason I use the Ultimate is the PC image back up, and I had a copy of it. If you had 2 copies of Ultimate wouldn't you use it?
-
2.4k is a little high. While you have a second battery and spare A/C, your Hard Drive is only 5400RPM. At that price, I'd expect a 7200RPM.
Call Dell University up and see if they can knock it down to around $2,200 or better. Also, when you say $2400, is that in the cart, or the subtotal? I ask, because you should see in the cart $2400 - 3% Dell Value discount - 12% Dell EPP discount, which would bring you to a little over $2,000, which is reasonable. -
Unfortunately that's with discounts and tax included. I'm going to give them a call today and see what they can do. The actual system price is a bit of $2,800.
It's odd because I could have sworn that I spec'd it out identically back in august and it was much cheaper ($500 at least).
Edit: Does anyone know if Dell routinely has a cyber monday sale on XPS systems? I doubt it but it doesn't hurt to ask
Thanks,
Andrew -
Ok its because youve got the LED display with VGA webcam thats pushing it up $300!! i wouldnt spend the extr £150 just for a little brighter display...
-
right i just configured this for $1,809

I knows its only 1gb of ram because dell charges you loads for the ram and its only an extra $80 to upgrade to 2gb .. maby even 4gb
I chucked in the 320gb drive cas its blooming speedy and loadsa storage space...
so thats $1900 with the extra space... then coupons
3% Dell Value discount - 12% Dell EPP discount ...
i dunno what the coupons are so ill work it out based on what the other guy said... now 1809x0.97 = 1750 roughly
1750 x 0.88 = 1540now that is one smashing price if those discount are real

I would definately go for LED.
LED is the option that makes the M1330 more appealing to me. -
However, even after dropping the display the cost (including $174.28 in taxes) is still $2,158.90.
Does anyone else have any comments on the LED screen, is it worth it? I just dropped by a kiosk and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the LED screen and the CCFL Inspiron sitting next to it.
Edit: Btw, the minimum ram option through my EPP site is 2GB so that would explain a slight increase in the cost. Typically i'd go with 1GB and snag 2GB on sale over the holidays but it's not really an option in this can. Also, I really appreciate all of the help you guys have been offering.
Thanks,
Andrew -
The LED theoretically offers greater more battery life, but I don't know by how much and I haven't seen any real world data on this.

What's EPP discount?
I am student planning to get the M1330, but the only discounts I know is through my school (4% off w/o the >1 year warranty thing). Anybody know of other discounts/coupons? I'm poor... -

thats costly dude....
I got the one in my sig. for $2002 and got $81 back for free messenger bag. So eventually it was $1919. It came with Vista home.
Bargain with dell rep over the phone and try to bring them to $2000.
Univ discount is 6% flat and 12% if u get 3 yr warranty ( www.delluniversity.com) -
If you are interested try my article on buying below. Hint Hint...sometimes the EPP route is not the best to follow as it is prorated on the warranty chosen which, of course ups your price.
Read the article and try and get lower pricing on your own. Many have done very well. -
I'm about to call them and see what they can do. I'd really like to get it down to around $2000 if possible. A system with everything that I want comes to about $2500 after EPP discounts including tax. So i'm not quite sure it will be possible to get it down to 2k but we'll see.
Thanks,
Andrew -
Hmm, They didn't want to budge one bit. I'm trying another rep now...
Edit: They are sticking to the "no deals on XPS systems" bit so i'm afraid i'm out of luck. The EPP discounts come to 15% off so that may be the best i'm going to get.
I'll try again tomorrow during normal business hours and see if anyone is willing to budge.
Thanks,
Andrew -
This is the standard Dell discount over the typical Dell Home Division main store. With any laptop, and certainly one like the M1330, I'd highly recommend getting at least a 3 year warranty with it, which will give you the maximum percentage off the Dell Home price. -
If you are not in rush, try at end of the month, or like I said before, just go with Dell outlet, or Ebay. Both deals will beat whatever a sales person can offer IMO. -
It's actually a bit frustrating because the total cost for a system with the CCFL screen is $2,205 with a $200 gift card. If they would just apply the gift card to the system cost then it would be right at 2k. I really would like the LED screen but I just don't feel that it's worth $300.
I'm going to keep an eye on the estimated ship date and try to hold out as long as I can. I really want it here by December 20th at the latest.
Thanks,
Andrew -
I ordered my XPS M1330 on the wee hours of 10/31 from Dell's outlet. I didn't really want to spend Dell's starting asking price of $1,199 (while reasonable) and then knowing I'd have to tack on an additional $300 for the mandatory 3 year warranty for me.
Instead, I purchased a $799 scratch & dent M1330 with basic specs, the 1.5Ghz Processor, Standard Display Web Cam, 4Cell Battery (will purchase a 9 cell in a month or two), Crimson Red top, and added Bluetooth for roughly $20, and added a three year at home warranty and complete care for $315.
All in all, it comes to $1,330 plus some change for the XPS, with warranty and essential options I want. Seems like a good deal. I purchased a scratch and dent desktop before and was plesantly surprised at its overall condition, very minor scratch at the top of the case and worked out fine for one month, which Dell replaced with a $1,800 "previously ordered new" desktop.
I'm excited because it gets delivered tomorrow ... and I look foward to see what kind of condition it is in. I've used the outlet before on laptops, and was always pleased. -
If you have the time could you please post the condition of the system when you get it? I'm a bit hesitant because every time i've sent a notebook to the dell repair depot, they've always come back with more than a few scratches.
Thanks,
Andrew -
Yeah, I would like to know too. I think you and I are in the same boat, Andrew. I'm going to try to wait it out as long as I can to buy the 1330, and hopefully at the end of the month, there will be more discounts/coupons.
The Dell Outlet prices are actually pretty good, but I'm very hesitant of refurbished machines. I'm scared they will be drastically worse than new machines. (Side question: For the Dell Outlet prices, can you also negotiate a price on those with Dell reps?) -
Alright so I just got off the phone with dell and the following is what I can get for $2,135.63 (including taxes and shipping).
Code:XPS M1330 Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache) OPERATING SYSTEM(S) Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate Edition System Color Tuxedo Black Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz LCD and Camera Standard Display with 2.0 Megapixel Webcam Video Card 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8400M GS Hard Drives Size: 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 8.1 Combo or DVD+RW Drive CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW Drive) Sound Options Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition Wireless Networking Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Mini-Card Office Productivity Software (Pre-Installed) No Productivity software pre-installed Anti-Virus/Security Suite (Pre-installed) No Security software pre-installed Primary Battery 6 cell Primary Battery and 9 cell additional Lithium Ion Battery Hardware Support Services DellCare Value Dial-Up Internet Access No ISP requested Power Options Dell Slim 65W Spare Auto/Air/AC Adapter Fingerprint Reader No Fingerprint Reader Bluetooth and Wireless USB Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR) Dell Digital Entertainment No Entertainment software pre-installed Camera Panel Standard LCD with Tuxedo Black Casing and Camera XPS M1330 Processor Branding Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Labels Windows Vista Premium Datasafe DataSafe included with DellCare Service bundle
Thanks,
Andrew -
Well, I just ordered a very similar system for $2141.22 shipped. That was with a 15% discount and a $200 gift card so I figured that was about the best I was going to be able to get.
I could probably have managed a better deal If I waited a few weeks but since I was paying with my debit card the ship date was already 11/29. A few more weeks and I may have not gotten before Christmas.
Thanks,
Andrew -
I would've just went for outlet, or Ebay.
-
doubleohwatever: how did you get the 15% discount? I'm trying to negotiate a m1330 as well...any advice?
-
Ebay - Try to get my spec on my sig (minus 1.5gig ram, and intel turbo memory) for 1875. The seller is selling it for 1799 now.
Outlet - Lowest price w/ Nvidia GPU, LED, other options lowest like 1.5ghz, etc was 1199 while topped off w/ SDD HD 32 GB was 1799.
Keep searching, and you will get a deal you like. -
Besides I can always consider it a business expense come tax time.
Edit: Also, my ship date isn't until November 29th so I have at least a week or more to keep an eye out for better deals.
Thanks,
Andrew -

$200 discount on m1330
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=185582 -
Unfortunately my EPP discount still beat the $200 discount (I can't use both, called to confirm). However, if someone can't get an EPP discount then the $200 coupon should definetely help.
Thanks,
Andrew -
Is EPP discount same thing as student discount through university (the up to 12% one)?
