I just got this m1330 20 minutes ago and I'm still on the phone with dell support (who has transferred me like 4 times now and I'm still waiting)
basically the slot loading drive isn't accepting/sucking in automatically my cd; i'm trying to insert the mediadirect disk to reformat/clean install but it's just not responding.
has anyone experienced a similar problem? or am i doomed to a faulty product and have to send this back and get a new one (sigh..)

I'm sure the technical support may have walked you through this, but try checking in your BIOS (F2 at startup) and see if your drive is present. If not, there is an issue with the drive or the connection. If your drive is present, does it have any activity on boot? Are you able to insert a cd/dvd before it boots into windows? If your drive isn't present in BIOS, and there is no activity on it during boot, there is an issue with the drive. I'm sure technical support will guide you on the issue and come to a resolution.
