    Hi

I have my m1330 and it came with vista home premium (32 bit). after i read the benchmark of 32bit vista and 64 bit vista. i want to try 64bit vista. as far as i know the only version of 64bit vista is ultimate. (however he mentioned 64bit home premium?)

so I pick the vista ultimate dvd of my friend (suppose to be original retail) and tried to install on my laptop. but I always get BSOD when it finished copying files (the first reboot).

is there some protection of Dell or something like that, which I must upgrade my vista using "upgrade " option in the control panel??

All 4 versions of Vista come in 64-bit.

I'm not sure why you would get a BSOD, retail discs shouldd work fine. Maybe see if it happens again?

is there a way to upgrade my home premium to 64bit without buying a new copy? (the disc of vista premium i got is the one came with my laptop. actually not sure if it a "real" dvd of vista or just a disc for reinstallation only)

OK, first off, were you trying to install the 64bit Vista from the 32bit Vista, without doing a clean install? You do know that you have to do a clean install when going from 32bit to 64bit, don't you?

If I'm off the mark, let me know. Just trying to help.......

Yes, get a copy of 64bit Vista Disk and install. Use Orev's abr utility listed in the HP forum thread under "Clean Install" to copy the OEM key and Vista Certificate--> you can use them to install 64bit Home Premium w/ out buying a copy of 64bit Vista.

thanks i always do clean installs. (format, partion, install..)

so, if i have my product key, I just have to get a copy of vista home premium 64bit and install it using my product key?

the problem is all the people i know the only have vista ultimate 64bit, when i enter my product key with a ultimate it will become premium? right?
