In all seriousness, I'm trying to do decide if this upgrade is worth it for me
If all I do on my notebook is word processing, internet, and watching movies, will I notice any advantage to the m1330 over the 700m? Will it be noticeably faster in any way?
The weight is about the same (and I get 8 hours battery with my 4 + 8 cell 700m batteries)

Just a simple honest question - would be very curious for input from those with experience.

It depends on what speed processor and how much RAM you have in your 700m. I don't think it would be worthwhile to upgrade if all you do is word, internet and a few DVDs. You won't notice any significant difference with the m1330. If you're looking for a bit of a speed boost - you're probably better just getting a RAM upgrade..

You have the same configuration on your 700m as I had before my M1210 and now this M1330.

    Yes...its a huge difference!!!!!

My son loves the 700 now and it has lasted us 4 yrs but believe me you will see a world of difference.

if thats your intended use, than no don't bother upgrading, most of M1330's cost is in its supposed style instead of performance anyways.

Stick with the 700m and it will do everything you need it for.. The M1330 is overkill for what you want. M1330 is gobs of power in comparison and for a lot more money, upwards to $2000 depending on config.

hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the input. I kind of suspected that faster computers don't really benefit average users (word/internet) that much. In a way it seems almost computers haven't changed that much (other than speed for applications that use it, of course)...

Same specs as my m700. I predominately use it for office work, but I could really feel the slowdown on my m700. I added some more ram but didn't feel much increase. I usually wipe the drive and start from scratch once a year and you get a little boost but I really needed the upgrade. I have my computer do grid processing at night or when I am not working on it and usually the average process took about 9 to 12 hours. I installed it yesterday about this time and in just under 24 hours it has completed 4 and 2 more are almost done. So it has almost tripled the output. I have been a bit disappointed in the battery I had an 4 and 8 cell battery and now have a 9 and ordered a 6. But I am only getting about 3 hours on the 9 cell. I thought I would get closer to 4.

Just to make sure, do you mean you got the perf. increase after the 700m clean install (or after installing on a m1330)?
(I also just did a clean install on my 700m, huge difference - starts up in under 15 seconds now.)

You will always get a performance boost when you do a clean install because you clean out the registry and other things. I meant the 700m and that it just wasn't enough.

There is no reason for you to upgrade unless you feel your movies are not running as smooth as you would like

thanks for the input. No, my DVDs & divx run as smooth as can be. I hook it up to my 2407wfp-hc (24" dell) via vga and colors are great. Would it look much better with the hdmi-dvi, or not necessarily?
Other than that, it seems there's not much advantage...

I've gone from the 700m to the m1210 and now the m1330. Each step up has brought increases in both performance and usability.

The biggest difference between the 700m and the m1330 is the size of the keyboard. The 700m has a very compact keyboard and can be hard to type on.

Stick with the 700m for now. The fact that you are asking this question leads me to believe that you don’t really need an upgrade right now. Upgrade when you feel the need, then you’ll notice a real difference.

For that purpose, it's probably not worth the price, unless you can sell the 700M for a decent amount. Otherwise spending $1500+ (easily) on something that will marginally improve what you're using the laptop for isn't easily justified.

Unless your office/word processing work involves a lot of multitasking, I'd hold onto the 700M a little while longer.
