Which battery will last longer: 6 cell m1330 or the Sony SZ's standard battery. I don't know what type of battery Sony is including.

Sony SZ is considerably lighter (premium models) at 3.7 lb

BUT do they get that weight down by mainly by only using a 4 cell battery? If so, then the Dell m1330 with a 4 cell is within sniffing distance of the Sony SZ premiums in terms of weight.

I don't believe that the Sony or Dell laptops have anything determining the battery life other than the size of the batteries that they use.

    Update:

I found the answer, I think.....

The Sony standard battery is 5200 mAh, and is 11.1 volts.

Multiplied together, that gives a total watt-hours of about 57,000, which is 57 watt-hours, which is about the same as the Dell m1330 6 cell at 56 watt-hours.

So the Sony SZ is coming in at 3.7 pounds or so with the same size battery. Impressive. You'd be saving about half a pound or more if the Dell m1330 is 4.3 pounds with its standard 6 cell.

Sony SZ has dual GPU that you can switch X3100 or 8400gs by hardware switch. Just swtch to x3100 and Sony has advantage on battery life.

When Sony says that it weighs 3.7 pounds that is only the most expensive model with the special composite top. The normal SZ I am pretty sure weighs in at around 4 lbs.

sz6 also uses hybrid harddrive that has on board ram buffer, which also provide faster access and improves battery life

The Dell M1330 NBR review reported that battery life with a nine-cell was just over four hours with brightness cranked all the way down to 3/8!

I read that, of course, only after already having my M1330 on the DHL truck. My sense is that Sony has Dell beat all around in terms of LED display quality, battery life, features and fit and finish (read my first impressions of the Dell M1330 and you'll know why).

The only thing Sony does not provide is a relief from crapware, but a clean install is always recommended anyways.

sony's version of the 8400gs only have 64mb dedicated memory. the look of its chasis also did not change much from the sz4, it in fact got a bit bigger. and every brand has its own share of problems

The weight increase was less than half a pound, and it is barely larger in size.

    Vaio SZ650
    Weight: 3.95 lbs
    Dimensions: 12.5”(W) x 1.0"-1.5"(H) x 9.3”(D)

    vs

    Vaio SZ450
    Weight: 3.72 lbs.
