    Hi,
I also received my m1330 recently (T7500 , X3100, etc) but could only start testing today and I must say I have very same problem. My HD is WD 250 GB 5400 rpm. I have read it is one of quietest, but it really makes a lot of noise. I also have very old HP nx6110 with e.g. celeron 1.4 GHZ and the HD here is Toshiba 40 GB 4200 rpm. This HD is at least 3 times quieter (so I mean the whole notebook, because when making notes or so the loudest part in notebook is always HD), so either these new HDs are really so noisy or something is wrong.
At first I thought that my CPU fan (at m1330) is always working on middle or high revs, but after I unscrewed this plastic plate it turned out it even does not rev at all, so no fan noise. But the sound is so loud that it's really annoying and uncomfortable.
I tested all power modes on battery and does not change anything.
Is it typical for m1330 to be so loud (e.g. because of it's metallic case, so no good noise damping) ?
I am really disappointed (but only by this, other things are great - assembly is perfect, but unfortunately whine is present :/ )

I would be very thankful for the advice, because I want to fully enjoy my new treasure ;)

    With regards integrator

Ive noticed that this noise just happen when my pc is mainly on idle, doing basically nothing orreally light use like web browsing... but its not really loud as yours i suppose.... because if the fan is working at the high speed, or playing any music even at the quarter of the volume of the speakers, it will cover this clicking...

but youre complaining about other noise and to be honest apart of this weird clicking, my laptop produces almost no ZERO noise including the HD working and the fan, its really quiet im happy with it...

my mate got a m1530 and its doing the same noise with his laptop as well. hes using a 250gb 5400rpm vista home premium 32bits

    all the best Beto

So sorry for offtopic, but has your friend solved this HD noise (same capacity and rpm so prolly it's WesterDigital also). Has he got HD replacement or he has learnt to live with this noise?

actually he is a quite too much easy going person so he thought it was ok for now until i came up with the problem then he realised thats not ok haha

so now hes wondering also if its normal or what, but for now hes living with it. however for me as far i conclude thats not normal i will call dell and ask for a replacement for sure, after all ive spend a lot on this baby.

I doing this topic to know if this noise is normal because well i just know 2 ppl whose has this xps and the both has the same issue... so 100% has it in my view lol

actually i dont know which brand his hd is, ill figure out and post later on though
    btw i have Seagate ST9200420AS

Sounds like HD clicks to me... I posted this in another thread, it's good food for though (IMO)

To add on now that I've played w/ my M1330s some more, I love the Fujitsu and I'm very anal about noises. I have BOTH M1330s on "Quiet" HD (Via the BIOS) and it didn't make that much difference to either Hard drives (imo). So in my 'on hands' test, I blame the WD... but with everything else electronic.. I coulda just had a 'bad batch'
