:eek2: have my xps for quite a time already. but still... would like to find answers to these questions:

    1. what should be the idle and load temperatures of the cpu ( notice the configuration of my m1330)?
currently the idle temp. is 49-50 degrees C. the thing is that now, sometimes cpu fan gets activated on idle or when i browse net. earlier this happened only when i played something. can it happen because of warm room temperature?

    2. is there any additional software for the webcam apart the DELL webcam console?
for instance video recording, more options for taking images, etc.

    3. am i able to upgrade my soundcard?
i mean integrating any soundblaster. i dont have express card in my mind.

    4. am (if so, how) i able to take out the keys of the m1330 in order to clean some sh*t under them?
a question for the future, actually

    5. how does your card reader work with the MS/Pro Duo card (with adapter)?
for instance i get a old-fashioned windows blue error screen, telling me about some memory problems. but i am not able to read it all, because windows restarts itslelf in a second or two.

    guess that's it for now.
    thanks.

    1. Room temperature will of course have an effect on your laptop.

    2. The Dell software included will allow you to record video as well as take pictures.

    3. No upgrades to the sound card which is part of the main board.

    4. You can take out the entire keyboard by removing the touch button strip (two screws under the battery) which will then reveal two screws to remove the keyboard. Easier just to remove the entire keyboard and then blow it out with compressed air.

    5. I have no problems reading MS Pro Duo cards on my m1330 with Vista Ultimate.

1-4...what Kris said. As far as CPU temps, keep the heat sink clean as well...after a while dust gets sucked through the fan and heat sink fins dramatically increasing temps and fan useage. Easiest way to clean is to just blow some compressed air through.

    5. I also have no problems reading 2GB MS Pro Duo w/ adapter that I use w/ PSP and Sony digicam. I too have Vista Ultimate.

It's actually really easy to pull the entire heatpipe out of the machine. 4 screws around the processor and then 1 on the heatpipe and it essentially flips up and pulls out. Makes keeping it clean much easier.

    thanks.

ok, then i ask in a bit different way.

how big should be the effect of room temperature? it's about 20-22 degrees. is the idle cpu temperature of around 50 degrees normal? maybe i'm worried without any reason.

Khris, what do you have in mind by saying The Dell software? Because the only software i've found is the webcam console, where you can adjust some video settings, like brightness and contrast, but there's no feature for recording videos. and, yeah, of course i can take pictures when i go to My Computer/Laptop Integrated Webcam folder, but... it's only snapshotting.. is that it?

or maybe the XP is the one here to blame for everything?

by the way, i remembered one more thing - when i take out the battery, there some kind of slot. like a ?sim card? slot. :confused2: does anyone have a clue what is that slot for?

moreover, there's an indicator on the battery. i suppose it's a battery life indicator, but i haven't even seen it working ever. whats your situation? or maybe it's XP again to blame? :mad2:

It's for a sim card! If you get one of the wireless broadband options that's where the sim card would go.

You should have received a CD with the Dell webcam software on it. If you've installed XP instead of Vista, this software may not work.

Sim card slot is used if you've purchased the Mobile Broadband (WWAN) card. Contrary to some people's beliefs, even CDMA providers will use a SIM card for purposes such as this.

Press the round circle on the battery indicator to activate it.

It shows you the current battery charge by pressing the round button. The lights will remain on for about 5 seconds after pushing the button.

yeah.. sometimes, when it's too simple, it's difficult to find out.

    still.. the temperature issue?

    thanks, anyway.

Use the search button and you should find a few other threads addressing the CPU temps.

I do not understand your question, ovdis.
Your CPU temperatures look normal, as has already been answered for you, and the fans will come on more often if the temperature in your room is hot.
Were you asking about something else?

i've only been answered that room temperature effects cpu temperature. nobody commented anything else on it.
anyways, i've browsed the forum a little and found out that other users has more or less the same temperature for T7100.

the thing is that i saw some people in this forum claiming their m1330 has temperature of 27 when idle (although they had different CPUs (t9300)). so that is why i started worrying. and more frequent activated fan even strengthened my suspicions, that my cpu is running too hot.
