Lately I've been noticing on my XPS m1530 that there is a rough edge right under the touchpad buttons where the metal meets the plastic where the headphone / micophone / line in jack is.

    Does anyone else have this?

I normally rest my thumb in that area while using the touchpad so it is noticable.

Can you gently sand/buff it? I think rough edges have been reported on several of these notebooks.

Oh...that's the static sooooo famous for the laptop. This sensation of "rough" edge is most obvious on the side of the laptop aluminum casing, as well as the strip under the touchpad keys.

Perfectly normal, but if you would perfer not to have it, call Dell and ask for a 3-Pronged power adapter for the 1530 static...the CR should know what you are talking about.

I suppose I could sand it but what is this 3 pronged power adapter?

If the feeling is caused by static (a known issue with this laptop), one of these should help by grounding the laptop better (or something like that :p).

Thanks. I'm certain that the problem is physical as I can feel it even if the notebook is unplugged and off. It appears that the plastic sticks out slighly longer than the aluminum which creates an small rough edge of plastic. It only runs the length of the headphone - line in jacks. The rest of the edges are flush with the aluminum.

Unfortunately that is the area where my thumb tends to rest when using the touchpad so the rough edge is somewhat of an issue.

Seems as though the only solution would be to sand but this seems like a PIA especially for a newer laptop.

    ehh...shoddy build quality

how old is it? if it's still within the return period and there are other issues you aren't 100% satisfied with, it might be worthwhile to request a replacement if you can afford to be without a computer for a short period of time

Yeah, I have this too. Noticed it pretty much straight away.

No big deal for me though - I use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse and it isn't visible to the eye.
