I just received a new m1530 today, and I'm having one problem. The power button at the top of the keyboard is difficult to depress.

The media key (or home or whatever it is) to the left of it works flawlessly, and i can hear it *click* when i gently press it. The power button on the other hand, does not make a click at all, and to turn the machine on i had to apply a siginificant amount of force before it was recognized the first time(I still have to push, just not as hard as the first time, oddly enough).

I'm just wondering, is this normal? Was the power button designed this way? Or should it function relatively the same to the media key to the left of it?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
(and yes, I'll contact Dell if this is in fact a problem)

I would think it would need to be pressed hard so it doesn't accidently get pushed and turn you off, I could be wrong though.

If you are comfortable opening up the system, you should check to make sure that there isn't a cable or any debris situated right underneath the power button. You can do this by removing the hinge caps and gently removing the faceplate bezel plastic. Check your user's manual for more detailed instructions.

had this problem too. My media direct has a definite click but my power button I do have to press and there is no satisfactory click. I don't think its necessarily "normal" but I bet its pretty common.

My power button does the same thing. It doesn't have a definite click when I depress it. It still works fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

So i went to a local best buy and there is a definite "click" when i depress the button, not so with mine unfortunately. Although, after two weeks I feel like I have gotten used to it, and it is not too much of a problem. I am under the 21 days, but I doubt it's something I will complain about. Have you contacted Dell yet, or fixed the problem?

smoothieboy, looks like we got the same laptop!

Mine has a soft click. Sometimes I don't even know if I pressed it hard enough. I just look for the blue lights to flash to make sure it's turned on.
