I have purchased a Dell m1710 in December and I noticed when playing games that there's alot graphic glitches in some 3D games. I play mostly BF2142 and when loading the map, the loading screen start making huge artifacts in fast motion.

I also experience this problem with the 3d aquarium screen saver (shipped with MCE) at the native resolution, but the problem goes away when I set the screen saver to start with a lower resolution.

Sometime when I start the computer, I also getting no display except having fast moving horizontal white and black bars on the screen. The only way to fix this is to restart the computer or simply to close the panel and lift it up again.

The laptop is equiped with a Geforce 7950GX

Anyone have an idea what is going on with that? Thanks.

So, it's been glitching since you got it from Dell in December?

Exactly. Since I play mostly BF2142 in the laptop I tought it was only the game that was unoptimised for laptop. But since, I noticed similar glitches now and then when using 3D and video applications. And I recently found out that the aquarium screen saver at the 1920x1200 doing this anomaly all the time. I was just using a default screen saver all that time.

If you are having this problem even at the startup then it sounds like a hardware issue (Most likely the VGA card). Contact DELL.

But can someone with the same specs as my XPS can confirm they never had this problem? even with a new formated laptop with Dell's drivers? (which are nVidia dated from December).

I did format mine when I got it to get rid of the bloatwares, but I had some issues when I reinstalled the drivers from Dell's website. I resolved the issue in some unusual ways but it did the job as it seems.

Call dell, it might be a driver issue, but the more I think about it, the more likely it seems to be a hardware problem, your not overclocking or anything are you? Dells support has been overall very good to me, it can be frustrating at times, but in all my experience, the end result has always been favorable. In the future, dont wait to report a problem, the longer you wait, the harder it can be to get it taken care of. Lastly, what are your scores in 3dmark 05 and 06, are you getting the same glitches in them?

By that if you mean nothing is displayed on screen after pressing power button; then it can't be a driver issue. Because nVidia drivers are only used when you boot up Windows (from the welcome screen onwards).

no, it just really random in every startup. The Dell logo always appear correctly but once Windows logon is loaded sometimes I get all the screen covered by black white horizontal moving up and down fast. I put away the desktop by closing the panel and lifting up and it correct the display. But as the artefact glitching thing, it occuring 100% of the time when loading a map in BF2142 or when I load the aquarium.

BTW, I was surfing the Dell forum and found that article relating the problem, similar of mine: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=xps_port_vid&message.id=3032

I will try to contact Dell now.

Could be heat issues. Graphic artifacts often do that and my dell gets that some times too.

    Might need an intercooler
