Hello all.
I just got my new Inspiron 6400 1.5 weeks ago
Is it possible to use the media control buttons with an other application than the "Dell media Experience" (which I don't like)?
By the way, I'm also wondering if these temperature ranges are okay (doing pretty normal work, watching DVDs, Flash presentations, copying files, seraching directories, etc. But no games):
CPU : 33-64 C
GPU : 55-65 C
DIMM (mem.) : 45-60 C
Chipset : 45-49 C
HD : 47-54 C
thanks!
P.S. : the Dell works well, except for a few catastrophic Blue screenswhich, I believe, are related to my ATI driver (I have the ATI x1400 and it doesn't seem to like the last version of Skype). I might try the Omega driver thing, but will wait a bit...

Those temperatures don't seem to be too horrible, they could be better though

The Media Keys work with Cyberlink PowerDVD, WMP, Winamp and iTunes. The problem is that you have to start these programs manually, then you can use the keys. The Dell MediaDirect or the play button only starts Media Experience.
PowerDVD and WMP are already configured to work with the keys. Winamp, you'll need to enable global keys (open winamp-->options--preferences-->check "Enable Global Keys"). For iTunes, there is a plug in. See this thread (page 2) for more info:

Daetlus (TEMPERATURE) :
Thank you for your opinion. My main concern is actually for the hard drive. It normally doesn't go over 55C, but... Is my data safe? (If I touch the bottom of my laptop, where the HD is located, it feels pretty warm...)
I've also noticed that one of the fan (there are two fans), not the cpu one, will always stay at the same speed. Is it the same with other Inspiron 6400?
I'd like too know if other Inspiron 6400 users have the same temperature range doing "normal" work.
Thanks a lot!

SouthernGirl :
Thanks!
wanted to use WinDVD, but I'll switch to PowerDVD if that's a better solution... Or... Hows the DVD playing with WMP and Winamp?
Thanks -
I wouldn't suggest watching DVD in WMP or Winamp, but that is a personal preference.
It should work with WinDVD once you get the program started or at least I thought it did. From what I've seen as long as you have the program started and in some cases it has to be the active window, your media buttons will control it.
