I am running vista ultimate on a XPS 1730 notebook either the program will hang or not respond or it will skip and stutter or stop responding after playing a dvd movie, is this a problem with vista?

Interesting. I doubt it's a problem with Vista since, well, it's meant to run on Vista. I have Vista Ultimate on my m1530 and it works fine. Did you reinstall vista/media direct after you got your laptop? I've heard some people say that their media direct didn't work when the first got their computer, but after a clean wipe and reinstall it all worked fine. Not 100% sure though since I haven't had any problems.

It will happen when I first put in the dvd either the media direct will not respond and I can't shut it down, other times it will hang when I am trying to fast forward to a different part in the movie. When I got my system it came with XP pro but I installed vista ultimate on it, not a clean install just an upgrade. I updated all the drivers after I installed Vista.
