    Hi all

I have just upgraded the memory in my Dell 1720 with DDR2 4GB 2x2GB 800Mhz
memory but the 1720 is only running it at 667Mhz

it detects all the new memory but its still running it at the older speed?

I have removed the battery and Cleared CMOS its still detecting it as 667mhz

    any suggestions?

EDIT oh the CPU is a T7250 with a 800FSB

Inspiron 1720 houses 965 chipset that does not support DDR2-800 speeds, it will automatically downclock to 667. The chipset supports 800 FSB Core 2 Duo chips, which has no bearing on RAM speed.

To be honest, you will NEVER see the difference of faster RAM, it is ALL a marketing ploy.

    thanks for the reply

didn't think didn't think it would make much difference TBH just wrongly thought if it had a 800FSB on the CPU the RAM should support 800Mhz

not a problem its all working fine thats the main thing.
