The max memory for the Inspiron 8200 is 1GB so maybe two 512MB sticks is a good idea.

I have a Dell. I think it's that same model. We went to circuit city to buy ram, and they said it was going to be like $600 for a 512mb stick. Because the older Dell's took a certain kind.

its not inspirion. it's a old dimension 8200. and unfortunately, crucial doesnt have any memory ram for the model.

dellxps, in the end, did you purchase any ram for the 8200?

if im right, its a really early p4 which used rambus (rd) ram. You have to use rd ram in pairs to complete the circuit. that stuff if i remember is really expensive because the decline commercialism of the product when ddr ram came out. when buying, you have to match the bus to ram. a link to the ram is below. to my looks, it looks like to upgrade 1gb will cost you 420 without tax or shipping.
