hey, how many ram slots are there for the 1530? 4? thanks.
-
You can use PC2 5300 @ 667Mhz or PC2 6400 @ 800 but the 800Mhz will be downclocked to 667Mhz, it is compatible but has no benefits.. -
Just remember, the total RAM its capable of using is around 3GB. Though it is better to have 4 GB because it allows you to have dual-channel. If you have 1 2GB and 1 1GB stick, you won't get dual channel.
-
Yes I almost forgot to mention that with a 32-bit OS, it will only recognize up to 3.5 GB of RAM but I recommend getting a 4GB kit then 1 1GB and 1 2GB..
And if you ever wanted to upgrade it to 64-bit then it will recognize all 4GB.. -
For my tablet pc it recognizes only 2.99
-
I think most of the laptops have 2? never see 4
-
but imho with RAM sizes like 3 or 4GB, you will barely notice the difference between running dual channel or not. -
ah i see. sorry, not much of a laptop person. didnt know they only have 2 slots haha.
thanks!

If you buy 3GB of RAM from Dell for the 1530, do you get one 1GB stick and one 2GB stick then?
I assumed it would be two 1.5GB sticks!
I was thinking about getting 3GB since I don't plan on upgrading to Vista 64 anytime soon and Vista 32 can only see 3.5GB and has troubles with some patches if you have 4GB installed... -
hey, sorry to revive this thread but..
i was looking through the ram installation guide and noticed that you need to remove the keyboard in order to get to the 2nd slot? but his was a lattitude instead of the xps. is this true for the xps as well? -
No. All ram is underneath one cover on the bottom of the M1530. No need to mess with keyboard junk.

Yup ram is so easy to upgrade you wont even believe..
-
Thank you. -
You get a 1GB and a 2GB for a total of 3GB. There's no such thing as a 1.5GB module.
-
Thanks for letting me know. Looks like it's either 2GB or 4GB. -
Well, I mean, theres Asymetric Dual Channel for RAM of two different DIMMS... but symmetric dual channel performs much better (having two identical DIMMS). So yeah, get 2 1GB for 2GB RAM, or 2 2GB for 4GB RAM. I recommend having 4GB for maximum performance.
-
I would just go with 4GB and be done. That's what I have in mine, I've disabled the swap file so every thing runs in memory and it's fast! -
Agreed Rhodan. That makes the most sense.
Thanks for the information and advice! -
What about me!? -_-
