    Hi guys,
I have just got a new Dell E1505 running on vista but for some reason my microphone does not work with it. I have tried connecting several different microphones, but none of them work.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem ?
    thanks

Hi, My name is John, and I work at Dell headquarters. Has this been the case straight out of the box? Your warranty should take care of this...

Like this is news... there are about a bazillion posts on this problem. I have the same issue with my 1505 and WinXP... I've read several posts of people having their MOBOs replaced to no avail. And... there are people that have been told by Dell that it's a known problem and that a driver fix is coming... So what's the real story with this whole SigmaTel audio thing. If you would be so kind as to enlighten us. Is it a hardware or a driver issue? If it's hardware, I'll send it in for repair. If it's software I'll wait and hope along with everyone else. I bought this notebook for VOIP. So far all I have is SOIP... static over internet protocol. It simply doesn't work and I've given up on the Dell tech support. They just refer me to the same driver I've installed about 20 times already... very frustrating.

The issue isn't whether it works or not... It may work for 30 seconds or 3 or 4 minutes but eventually it wigs out. Try using Skype with a new Dell Notebook... I'll bet you this piece of junk I have that it won't work. And all you get from Dell is to reinstall the driver. What a joke... I've installed it about 10 times and it makes no difference. They just tell you that to get you off the phone. Dell's support is not only useless, they have no interest in supporting you after you buy. I've purchased about 10K in computer equipment for both home and work in the last few months. I'll never spend another dime... until this is fixed.

Think I'll stick with XP for a while on my E1705 then. Mic works great in Skype on it.
