I recently bought an XPS1530 with a blu-ray optical drive. when I got my laptop it wasn't able to paly my blu-ray movies, it would freeze up all the time. That laptop had a 128M 8400GeForce
card and 2GHz proccessor. I assumed that was the reason it didn't work. Dell, because they sold me that system, replaced that laptop with the 256M 8600Geforce card, and a 2.4GHz proccesor. Will the new laptop play blu-rays?

yep, the 8600m gt is wayyyyyy better than the 8400m gs. yeah that thing will play games decently as well. the 8400m is not rly meant for watching high def. its just a card to do some web surfing and stuff. nothing that would be gpu intensive.

a 2ghz processor with a graphics card should be able to watch blu-ray.... u probably have too much bloatware running in the background

blu-ray = h.264 wrapped into a disc... u probably just need at least 2 gb ram....

yeah graphics cards don't have a whole lot to do with watching HD movies, i mean a 10 year old card isn't gonna cut it, but the difference between an 8600 and an 8400 isn't going to prevent you from watching blu ray movies.

How much RAM are you working with? Also what's the load on your processor at the time you are watching movies?
