I would wait if you want the different color. Personally There are better options in a netbook for that size ie MSI or Asus. They will probably be some better discounts coming soon. So I would wait for an deal that you just can't pass on.

Yeah they have their own Linux blend, but you can easily load Ubuntu and the Netbook Remix on them. If you are daring you can even paint yours like cmarcho did.

I just received my Mini 9. It was part of the special deal when you buy a Studio 15. I ended up paying less than half the price of a Mini 9 and the Studio 15 had its own discounts.

    Is it worth it?

1). There are a lot of limitations. The 1.6 GHz processor seems "slower" than my AMD Duron 900 MHz processor.

2). The SSD is kind of cool but I'm always used to hearing a hard drive ticking away. Now when it hangs up or does something, I have no clue if it crashed or if it is busy.

3). The keyboard sucks. You have to practice and get used to it but they did all the wrong things to make the keyboard fit. The ' key is down a row next to the / key. The Function keys require using "Fn" to activate, so Alt-F4 is now a 3 key affair. The \ key requires using Fn as well. I was going to use it in the classroom but it'd just slow me down.

4). As a 3rd or 4th computer, and something you haul around on trips, it works great. There's significant CPU usage when viewing flash videos (for some odd reason). I suspect it is due to poor driver/chipset coding for the Atom processor/GMA 950 video card.

The boot time is phenomenal. All PC's should boot into XP this quickly!!
It's a cute computer and something fun to play with but I'd rather use my 2.5 year old Inspiron E1505 all the time versus the Mini 9.

For $200, yeah the Mini 9 is worth it. For $450-$500? Not really. The mini 12 gets into $600-$700, and at that point you might as well buy a 13"-15" laptop with more power instead.

The Red Minis are out now. They also have pink and other colors with designs.

I like my white Mini 9. The shiny white plastic reminds me of Stormtrooper and Clone Trooper Phase I and Phase II armor.

I'd say you're correct in your assessment.

All in all, I think you'd be crazy to use any netbook as a main computer. I've made the mistake, twice, of attempting this. With the Mini 9, I'm sticking to the intended purpose, and I'm happy as a clam.

Hi Cin! It's still hiccuping with YouTube and Flash video. I'm going to wait for my 2GB stick to arrive and a clean install before I dig deeper into the problem. I don't understand why it would do this though, but it runs apps just fine. I'm not crazy enough to run Photoshop on it but once my memory arrives I will run 3dmark06 for kicks and giggles.
