Hey there, I have a Dell N5010 with an ATi 5650m and just out of curiosity thought I'd overclock it.

so I started off tentatively and added 50Mhz onto mem and core and the temp went up to 74C, I don't like temps going anywhere near 70 - my HP died from going up to 70C too much, it was an NVidia but still - so I thought I'd whack the fans up to compensate but the fan doesn't spin up at all at the markers I set.

I think that the only fan on the laptop is where the CPU is so could that be the problem? and if so, is there a way to speed up the CPU fan?

any help would be greatly appreciated

    Alex

use speedfan to adjust but i dunno how.. but is risky cos dell disable the mode to control the gpu fan speed at bios! u can OC ur clock to 550 mhz the temp can reach 80++ while gaming around 70 is normal.. if playing long time is not so good.. mine 60-70++ so i play few hrs only.. max 8 hrs!

I didn't think GPU's had a fan unless it was 17 inch's, but I'm not going to be OC'ing alot just when I need a little more juice for the big hoggers, from overclocking so far, overclocking 100mhz on the core seems to take care of vsync, so that would be the only reason for OC'ng.

I've been looking around and found that Dell had a BIOS that had the fan on full from 20 degrees C but its an earlier version to my BIOS so won't install. that would've been perfect for me, I dont use the battery that much so its on the mains all the time.

Otherwise the card at stock will rarely go near 70C usually 67 or if I'm playing Metro 2033, 69

Hmmm... very intersting, the thing is I still have about a year warranty on this lappy - its a refurb incl. with warranty - so I might just wait until then which is when I'll probably need to overclock anyways with the next gen of games.

I was wondering as well, is there any danger to flashing with a Modded BIOS? I've read its dangerous but is it any more dangerous than flashing a BIOS normally?

EDIT: I just noticed someone requested fan control modding and he posted back that it wasn't supported?

    regards Alex
