i need help inspecting it, should i post pics?

ive heard the base can be uneven..how can i tell, just by seeing if it rests flat? the battery doesnt seem loose. theres a little silver piece at the top of the keyboard which looks like it could fall off easily--is this normal, anywhere else i should look

Congrats Audrey....the best way to test for an uneven base it to just sit it on a flat surface, push lightly on the corners and see if it rocks around in anyway. You can try it both with the lid closed and again with it open. If it's uneven, you'll know.

    It's a great little notebook, isn't it?

I don't know about the problems you note. Put the notebook on a flat surface, like a table, and get a feel for typing. If it works and everything looks in working order.

everything looks normal too me. if you cant even notice the wobble until u take a picture to see half a millimeter of a gap, you are nitpicking. Theres nothing wrong with the little silver piece either. its not continuous because it is needed to access the screws.

hmm, yeah im going to put it on a different surface to see if the space is still there, but i agree everything else looks good.

if i return it for the base there's still a change something else will be wrong with the next laptop, is that even worth it?

Theres an easy way to fix the base if you want to and it was posted in another thread. Get a roll of thin 2 sided tape and peel the bottom of the rubber off. It is stuck on if i recall. Put the tape behind it then reattach. I believe the other pers also put a drop of superglue when he verified it was even.

Someone else actually bent theres into shape but i wouldnt recommend that....although you could ever so slightly.

oooh no i dont trust myself to bend it, ,i like the two-sided tape idea though. thank you!

one more nitpicky thing, the wifi/bluetooth buttons on the outside seem rather flimsy, is that normal?

Audrey, my 1530 just got delivered and when I put it on the flat surface, it had exactly the same little gap as yours which you included in this pic.

It's fine though because the laptop doesn't rock at all. It's just a minor thing which I'll overlook.

the silver thing is supposed to be able to come off fairly easily. its in the manual. i think its for being able to remove the media buttons, so that you can remove the keyboard and do whatever.

Yeah, the buttons are just flimsy like that. Not too bad since you won't be using them all the time :p

    Congrats on your new notebook.

My 15.4" is getting a bit heavy on campus. I'm really looking forward to getting one of these babies this coming summer.
