i just exited out of Tuneranger and it cut it down, but i can still hear the hardrive making the clicking noises. i have a q.

if you are sitting on the desktop with no programs running, will the hardrive read and write almost constantly? or should it stop? i know it will continue to spin.

I didn't go crazy and install a bunch of programs.

really, all i have installed is"

    itunes
    tuneranger
    truecrypt
    logbook pro
    ms office
    ms outlook
    adobe acrobat 8.1
and a vistacodekpack so i can view .avi files.

Vista is doing its thing...it is slowly indexing all your files and learning how you operate your PC so that it will adjust to you.

If the computer is new (is it a desktop? Is it running XP or Vista), it is probably indexing the drive for faster searching capabilities later on. You can disable indexing by going to My Computer> Right-click on your HD> Properties > Uncheck the indexing option.

If you are running Vista, it could also be the new SuperFetch service caching data from your HDD to your RAM.

m1530 is known to make hard drive noises because of the design flaw...some people said their harddrive is whisper quiet tho, which option did you choose?

These people are replacing their hard drives with higher end ones - maybe thats why they're quieter? I am getting my 1530 soon...I will do a comparison with the stock drive vs. my Hitachi Travelstar 7K200
