well, after only having the thing for...less than 10 days or so, the hard drive has crashed. i got the BSOD and an error ab out IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. i spent two hours on the phone with dell tech support (and what a treat that is...hard to understand, to say the least) and we tried all different kinds of things. finally, we tried to do the system restore and it wouldn't budge.
so, a new hard drive is on the way. this totally blows. good thing i hadn't sold my gateway just yet. and good thing i have my stuff backed up.
i hate laptops right about now.

Always good to have a backup.

one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch tho. had my xps140 for about 4 months now and it's great.
still have yet to do my format - reinstall of xp tho. -
Yes, it is quite easy to get soured by an entire model or company just by having a bad lemon but you really shouldn't let it get to you. I've only heard great things about Fujitsu and their support and was very dissapointed by my former Lifebook's screen quality in regards to stuck pixels, left a very bad taste of Fujitsu in my mouth.

i know, i know, i am not mad at dell or anything. poop happens, you know? i've just had a string of bad luck with laptops lately. and i thought this was going to be my final one...
-
Dont hate laptops...hate dell
-
Don't hate Dell, hate your specific computer itself.
-
It was probably just some defective model.
-
i just hope i get my hard drive soon.
i was selling my gateway on ebay at the time, so i had to yank that auction off there. sheesh. i need the money, too! -
Well, you can be lucky. What if your HD went out after the warranty?
-
-
Hey it could've been worse. At least you had the special XPS support and you were able to get a replacement
-
-
Well you WERE able to resolve it at least by actually getting the replacement part you needed.
my dell XPS M140 is DEAD
