ok, this is uber strange
i just ran memtest for an hour and now my dell is acting weird
symptoms so far is that when i close my lcd lid, it no longer turns off like it used too
anotheyr symptom is that it seems the bios turns on the fan to slow when the notebook is at low temps (ie cpu, gpu, chipset, hd, ram all ~50C) which has never happened before
anyone know how to resolve the problem?
EDIT: i've tried to upgrade the bios to a09 and the problem still persists, anyone know why?
closing my laptop lid no longer turns off the lcd
EDIT 2: i tried setting the close laptop lid option to standby, and when i close my lid it did go to stand by, which means that it isn't a hardware issue, and the bios upgrade rules out bios problem. anyone know why shutting the lid no longer shuts off the screen? also, my fan is spinning at slow (2400 rpm) when cpu was 45C, gpu 52C, memory tem 62C, chipset 47C...
i don't know why the fan starts spinning at such low temps, before i ran the memtest it didn't start spinning at such low temps

are you saying that memtest did all of this? what kind of "memtest" was that again? lol
-
i'm not blaming memtest
i know it only tests the ram
it's just i noticed these problems after it
anyone know how to resolve the problems mentioned? -
Just a guess here...
Are you referring to hibernate when you say will not shut down when you close the lid? Also (another guess here) if you were running memtest86 I'm guessing you probably just upped your memory in the laptop??? If so or if you are running over 1GB of memory, this might help:

alright, i think the laptop lcd not turning off is due to the video driver (omega 6.9, don't know if anyone can confirm this) since after using dell's pc restore, the lcd now turns off when i close the lid
the ram spiking temp looks like this:
the picture on the left is i8kfangui's reading of the memory temperature only and as you can see it increases for like 30 sec then suddenly drops off...
once i used i8kfangui to monitor my other hardware temps, the fan started going on and so did the ram temp, so i'm lead to believe that the fan turning on must create some driver confict or temp mis reading as its operation co-enside with the memory temp spike.
once the fan turns off, the memory temp drops off, anyone else has this with their e1505/6400?Attached Files:
