Now before anyone freaks out that I just got windows vista basic, the school im going to offers vista ultimate for around $50, as well as MS office.

    Vostro 1500, Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, 1.8GHz, 1
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCDTrueLife for Vostro 1500 1
    1GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM 1
    128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 1
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive 1
Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic 1
    8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+R write capability, w/o Roxio Creator 1
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card 1
    Integrated 2.0 mega pixel webcam 1500 1
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Vostro 1500 1

$834 before tax, so then I add another $50 for 2 gig ram and $50 for vista...
$934. Thats $200 cheaper than the same system I had with the 1520.

It seems that without the service plans and high-end processors (T7300 and up), the Vostro line is undercutting the Inspirons. Seems strange, but, meh.

No, I can't get 1 stick of 2 gigs, but you can get 2x1 gig sticks for about $50.
