Hi everyone. A little about myself. I live in Fresno, Ca. I own my own local auto enthusiast message board, as well as manage a high-end car stereo shop.

My current machine: Dell Inspiron E1705

    -Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300E (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)
-1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
-NVIDIA GeForce GO 7900 256mb Graphics Card
-17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
-Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio
-Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards

Dell is in the process of 'System Exchanging' this machine. They are sending me a Studio 17. I have of course, like every other tech-nerd, watched and read every review I could find, but reviews never tell you what they like and dislike over time. I'm hoping I can get some honest opinions here...

I have been assured the machine will be an upgrade from what I have now, and that every option I equipped on my E1705 will come on the new one, such as the WXUGA screen and Vid Card. I also figure it'll come with the entry level Studio 17 Core Duo 2 chip and lowest ram.

What are your guys' likes and DIS-likes about the Studio 17? Anyone go from an E1705 to a Studio 17? And if so are yu happy with the change?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I look forward to participating here!!

I wish I could tell you. Dell elected not to ship the S17 I ordered. I've asked the same basic questions you're asking though, and the responses have been sufficiently positive to not steer me in another direction. I'm just waiting for Dell to offer the system with better specs before I attempt to place another order.

    Welcome!

The Studio 17 comes with an ATI 3650 GPU, which is worse than the 7900 GS you currently have. I would demand for an m1730 replacement.

Why are they doing a system exchange?

The list is a long one, heh. I've just had a lot of problems with this one. After they send me the new one I'll elaborate.

Just too many problems with this thing. When it works it works GREAT, but the problem is it doesn't work too often, lol. But, I have friends with the same notebook and theirs all work perfectly. I think I just got a bad one.

Do you have any specifics? I'd love to get the m1730 but don't want to push my luck, lol.
