    Hello all!
I just get my new dell vostro 1500 and I check the video memory and it was 498 so I start to freak out!!! I restart into the set up mode and I found that the GPU code name was n8p-gs!! I do some research and found that is a low version of the 8600 GT...My question is if I am the only one who receive this VCard?

    PLZ help!

256MB NVIDIA® GeForceTM 8600M has 256 dedicated VGA memory and if I’m not mistaken it can also extend video memory by sharing from system RAM (Turbocache). That would explain 498MB video RAM.

You can use a tool like RivaTuner to get more information about the graphics core and video RAM, but those tools are not always 100% reliable with new GPU models

It could be the 8600M GS hence the n8p-gs...

Its just a code for the 8600m GT, its not a 8600 GS.
Stop worrying about code names you find in your BIOS that you dont know anything about, sit back, relax, grab a Mt. Dew, load up a game on your new laptop, and enjoy.

Also of note, Vista simulates features like Turbo Cache on any video card. That includes ones designed for it and one that were not designed for it.
