you want to upgrade your PROCESSOR?!>@>?? [:0] - Go and buy a book on it or something...

Apart from that which on a dell machine would probably entail reducing your machine down to its component parts and even then... The HDD upgrade is standard - on most laptops you can just take a back panel off and slot in a new one. If I were you I might get more ram instead of taking the route of upgrading the processor (get 2x512 sticks, or 1x1GB)

    oh - and good luck...

Sorry, but upgrading a processor on a notebook is just basically unfeasible. The motherboard's are designed in a manner specific to the processor being used so if you want to upgrade a processor you have to upgrade the motherboard...and that's like expensive and not worth it. Upgrading the hard drive is simple, you would just buy one from Dell and it would come with instructions on how to replace the one you have...it's a matter of removing some screws, taking out the hard drive, and then slipping the new one in.

is the RAM easy to install?
    can u have 1x256mb and 1x512mb?
can u have 2ram from different factory?

    is this only for dell?
does it work for sony, toshiba too?

You are misleading him about the processor. Upgrading from a dothan processor to another higher clocked dothan one is feasible though it requires taking your laptop totally apart to do it.

Keep my DV1000 or get an Inspiron with an extra modular battery and an ATI 9600 128mb for the same price? Decisions, decisions.
