    Hi
My 3 year old spilled apple juice on my inspiron 9400. it was working perfectly before.
The laptop went dead. I fully dismantled it , sprayed with electronics cleaner spray, remove and reset processor with fresh cpu grease.
the hard drive is ok as i was able to copy all my data to my desktop pc. the battery seems to be ok as when i push the button i get 5 green lights.
Now when i press the power button led 1 lights up for about 2 seconds and then goes dead. no noise, no post, no fans , nothing.
what can i do? i found some motherboards selling on ebay, does this seem to be the issue (deAD MOBO??) my dell had onboARD Video, the ebay mobo says needs video card, where does this plug in?
any advice will be very welcome!!!
Also a question: when you close the screen of your laptop it goes into sleep mode, what exactly is happening: is a button being pushed when one closes the screen? what makes it go to sleep when you close the cover??
    many thanks

If the board's gone, the board's gone. You can try letting it dry for a few more days, but it looks like you took the proper steps to try and save it, so if that didn't work...

If you had onboard video, you need to find a board with onboard video. The ones that need a discrete card obviously need a discrete card. I'd highly recommend against buying a discrete board and card, simply because the cards are way, way overpriced and all susceptible to Nvidia GPU fail.

As for standby, there's a little switch somewhere that should trigger when you close the lid. On the 6400 it's under the right hinge. I don't know where it is specifically on the 9400; it might already be a magnetic switch, too.
