Hi, a friend came over and helped me clear all the "bloatware" on my Vostro 1500. Now, when I use the computer, but I an unable to use the Fn key. Well, I can still use it, but I'm unable to see it on the screen. (ex: the "Fn" along with the up and down keys changes the contrast. Now, when I press down on the up and down keys, it does change the contrast, but it doesn't show the bars of where the contrast is...nothing shows up on the screen.) Same thing with my media buttons (the mute, vol up, vol down, play buttons). When ever I press them, it works, but there isn't a display. Like it won't show you the volume bar. Same thing with the "Fn sleep button" It just doesn't work. Also same thing with my wireless button at the left side of my Vostro. Whenever I pull the latch towards me to check the wireless connections, it doesn't show on my laptop.
Does anyone know what program I have to download to repair this? He also gave me some useful programs, so I don't want to do a system restore.
Thanks!!!

Re-install Quickset.
-
What's the quickset? Is it that black "drivers and utilities" cd?
-
It is on that DVD, yes.
OR, go to www.support.dell.com and d/l it -
Thanks.
I just tried that but it still doesn't work. Maybe I installed it incorrectly? After I install the quickset from the "Drivers and Utilities" CD, do I have to run it? From what I saw, my friend only went through the "Add or Remove Programs" list and removed a few stuff. -
You should see the quickset icon in the system tray. Left click it, under hotkey popups, make sure you enable the onscreen brightness and volume meters.

I don't know why everyone is so quick to get rid of crapware on the Vostros. Especially since it has no real crapware (you can opt out of the anti-virus and whatnot).
Personally, I think you may cause more harm than good. -
Thanks for your responses,
I did restart after I did the quickset installation, but it still didn't show up. I don't see a Quickset icon in my system tray. I'll uninstall the quickset, and reinstall it. -
Well, people who buy systems from dell always know there's some type of bloatware on their system. I used to buy the "consumer" computers from Dell, and they always put a bunch of bloatware that slows down the computer. I expected it to be the same with the Vostro....but there was only a small amount of bloatware in my Vostro.
I finally got it to work...thanks to all who helped. rep for sleey0 -
No problem!! (and thanks for the rep
)
