I'd like to buy a laptop for about $1000. I will be using it for simple word processing, excel, a little java programming, watching dvds, storing pictures and playing the sims games.

I found this configuration for $1082. Is this a pretty good deal? Do you think this is overkill or just about right? Is there anything I'm missing? Is it worth the extra money for the pentium chip instead of the celeron? Has anyone ever ordered from the small business side before? Is there a better computer out there?

I dont know if its overkill or underkill :)

but I just received my 8600 3 weeks ago a nd its a great machine.. now I got one a lil more powerful than yours cuz I use it for gaming a lot...

but anyways one suggestion...unless the Memory was a free upgrade it will be cheaper to buy the ram somewhere besides dell... like newegg or something...
Infact can probably get a 512 chip for the same price dell will charge for the 256

keep watching Dell is running all Desktop deals now but they might run another good laptop one who knows :)

Well I say if ya drink all the time-- ITS a PERMANENT Solution then

That should handle all of your needs nicely. I also agree, unless the RAM is a free upgrade, purchase the minimum RAM, and upgrade later.

I purchased mine from the small business site without any problems.

Stay away from celeron, I think it is a lousy chip and will only drain your battery.

Is portability an issue for you? The Dell 600m is a good machine as well that is a little lighter.

I think that is a pretty good price for what you get.
