I wanna buy a dell notebook, consider the following:
    1. office 2007, word, excel, onenote, ppt, outlook. seems demanding, even on some not bad desktop(core2duo, 1gram), switching between multiple word processes may lag.
2.play DVD or more HD video
    3. vista, biz or premium
    4. better video camera intergrated.
    5. have ethernet card, wireless lan, but do not need broadband cellular(service from verizon, etc.)
    6. 12"-15", roughly. no idea what kind of resolution is the best. some SXGA, SXGA+ are toooooooo high, how can people see text clearly with such high resolutions in a 15" screen?
    7. never play game
    8. 5400rpm or 7200rpm hd? of coure the latter is faster, what about the battery usage and noise?

Could anyone give me some advice about the specs? THX :)

The only DELL notebook which satisfies all your requirements is XPS M1210, basically because that is the only notebook by DELL to have an integrated camera. If you drop the camera there are plenty of other options. Give us your price range.

    O, thx~
Then I can forget the camera thing.
I guess $1500 or so is the upper limit. Excel processing needs a big screen, but > 15.4" not acceptable.
    Sometimes use Java & C#.
Only use Intel processor. Wanna no obvious lag when multi tasking.
    9-cell battery
no idea 802.11 a/g/b/n, which one is more popular these days, which one is future proof...I guess if it has WLan, then Bluetooth is useless...

btw: I dont see much difference in the Home, home office and Small biz....

    Thanks for your advice.

Inspiron E1505 (15.4" Wide) and E1405 (14.1" Wide) are good options worth considering. You can get a very powerful configuration for around $1200 (even less with a good discount coupon). E1405 is cheaper but it only has an Intel GMA950 integrated graphics card, since you are not interested in gaming that won't be a problem. However if you want something with better build quality then you might want to take a look at Latitude D820 (15.4" wide) or D620 (14.1" wide).
