um, i am want a laptop bad, and after looking around, narrowed it down to the 700m, 600m, and 8600. however, I felt like with each of these there was something that I was sacraficing. Enter the news this week of the new Dell that will be coming out. What about it you say? Well, that is all that I know about it. Does anyone else know? I will buy this new notebook if it has everything that I am looking for.

it won't be out until the very end of the year so you'll have to wait 3 months or so.

i agree, I LOVE the 8600, but it is a little to "desktop replacement"-y for my taste. an 8600 with the 14' widescreen would be perfect perfect perfect.

If you really have to have a notebook now, I would HIGHLY recommend the Latitude D600 or the Inspiron 600m. These models have been around for a while, but that can be seen as an advantage, because there is literally tons of information about them, lots of spare parts/add ons, and the technolgy used in them including the Intel 855 chipset, pentium M processors, Dedicated ATI Radeon 9000 Mobile Video with up to 64 mb video ram, as well as intigrated centrino wireless cards.

I personally chose the D600 for its classy, tri-metal chassis and professional look over the 600m's plastic, gimmicky, flimsy feeling one, and because of its standard 3 year warranty. I also only needed the 32mb of video ram (you can't get the 64 on the D600) for general DVD watching, MS Office, and light gaming. I got a travel bag, 1.4ghz Pentium M, 512mb ram, 3 modular bays (DVD/CDRW, 3.5 floppy, Travel bay) and a 802.11b intel wireless card all for $1500.39 shipped

    Not too shappy

thanks for the input, I am looking at the inspirons because i get a discount for working at a school, but it is only on the inspirons. anyways, i have looked at the features and specs for the 3 systems that i listed, but none fit perfectly for what I am looking for. i am hoping that this new notebook does. i know that a lot of people like models that have been out for a while, but i do not.

yea i've heard things about dell too, i even heard they're coming with a 17 inch widescreen and also a tablet pc. but those are probably this month or the next i'm not sure. although for your case, try looking at the latitude d800, just like the 8600 except it uses Gforce instead of ATi for the video card, and it is not as flimsy or breakable as the 8600. everything else is the same.
