    Hi,
i just got a inspiron 6400 with the following specs,
    2G Core duo
    1G ram
    60G HDD
    ATI X1400
    WSXGA true life 15.4"
3945 ABG wireless card with Bluetooth
i got the lappy about one and half weeks back,,,everthing is fine, except a couple of problems,,,
    1. the screen is a problem,,,there is light leakage at the bottom of the screen, and i can make it out clearly just by tillting the screen to 45degrees you can observe more brightness at the bottom and dark at the top,,,,,i dont have any dead pixels though,,,,
i had chat with dell support for sending me a new screen, the person didnt agree for sending a new screen he/she was just arguing that this is how the screen would be in any laptop,,,and even if i get a new screen there wont be guarantee that there wont be any light leakage,,,
i didnt wanted to replace this laptop coz the build quality is good and its sturdy,,,,and i dont think i would get the same thing later,,,,so for that i didnt ask this,,,
    2. the hdd i ordered is 60G but when i right click on C drive and see the properties it shows the total capacity is 50.6G  y is this??? even if you consider media direct partition which cant be seen,,,does it require 10G ?????

,,,please help me with this,,,should i get a completely new one,,,,or what should i do???
i have 9 days left for replacing this back,,,and going for another,,,,

    thanks a lot,,,
    bob,,

    1. How much light leakage are we talking here? I think you'll get some regardless of the screen, but if you think it's exceeding acceptable levels, then that's another story...

    2. Dell puts a Restore Partition on the drive; it allows you to reformat your computer to factory specifications without the need for a separate disc. Of course, that also includes any bloatware that came with it. I believe people estimate it takes up 5-10gb of space. There's a sticky near the top of this forum about Reformatting and reinstalling; that explains what exactly the partition is, and steps you can take to "reclaim" the space.

Well, don't forget there's the whole GB vs GiB thing. The hard drive may have as few as sixty billion bytes of storage space. That alone gives you just under 55.88 GB (well, what _I_ call gigabytes, and what Windows calls gigabytes). The file system will take up some small chunk of that. The media direct partition will take some. And the system rescue partition (if you have one) will take some. 50.6G seems quite realistic.

If you really need more space in the hd just reformat and erase the restore partition, i gained like 6 gb by doing it.
