The adobe reader that came with my 1705 causes a corrupt file error. It also won't let me uninstall it, or install a new adobe acrobat. Has anyone else had this problem or can you suggest a solution?
I'm beginning to think I need to do the re installation of vista without all the cr@p but I am worried about a program I installed that only has a limited number of activations. Any advice welcome.

It won't let you uninstall?
What happens when you try to uninstall it? -
I get "Internal Error 2330.1392.C:\ProgramFileAdobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser"
Thanks for helping me address this.

Very strange. I'm really not sure what's causing this.
If you try to uninstall Adobe from the Add/Remove it gives you this error?
You could try to start Windows in safe mode (if Vista has that option) and try uninstalling it then.

If you follow the path (C:\ProgramFileAdobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser), what's in the Browser folder?

Yes.

I'll try that next.
I f you follow the path (C:\ProgramFileAdobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser), what's in the Browser folder?
A file folder marked Adobe 7.0 which, when clicked on, gives a "not accessible; file or directory is corrupted or unreadable."
What program are you worried about?
A graphics program called electric quilt 6.0 which has four permitted installations and I've already used two.
Thanks again. -
Well I have no idea how or if you can fix this corrupted file.
The last thing that comes to my mind is a System Restore (I assume you can do one in Vista). If a System Restore doesn't work I don't know how you can fix this.
You can only get four installations from your Electric Quilt 6.0? Since you did buy the product and own it (and since the limitation on the number of times you can install it is probably there to prevent pirating of the software) you could try calling the company and they might reset your CD-Key. -
Thanks so much for your help. I'm sure that the EQ company will work with me - they have fabulous support so if I have to I'll go the re installation of vista route to get rid of the extra stuff.
Appreciate your time, Thibault.

You're welcome, Susan.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. I hope everything works out. -
More on my saga with Dell. I emailed support after I couldn't get on their chat line after several days of trying. They told me to download the malicious software tool from MS which I did. After several hours of scanning it told me I had no malicious software. I then spent 40 minutes last night with a support center phone person who accomplished less than I did in my first 5 minutes of troubleshooting. I have now decided to do a system restore, but, when I tried, was told I couldn't do a system back up! After doing a repair in startup mode I am now in the middle of backing up my files. I'll then try to go back to my first restore point, but I seriously doubt it will work since the corrupted adobe file I have is dated before I ever got the system. If that fails I will then do a complete reinstall of vista as described here. To say I'm fed up with Dell support would be an understatement. I now realize that I only have myself and helpful folks like you on this forum on whom to rely. I thought I was pretty much a neophyte, but after dealing with Dell support staff I'm beginning to think I know a lot more than them! Scary!
Thanks for listening and if you have any suggestions re: my plan I would like to hear them.
