Hi Everyone,
My new Latitude D420 came yesterday, and I've been playing around with it and setting it up. Mostly very happy, but here are a few things I don't like. I wanted to know if it's just my machine or if everyone has these problems:
1) The latch above the screen is very loose. the little silver plastic part rattles around a lot in the frame. On my old Latitude X200, this piece move around a little, but not nearly as much as on the new machine. Does everyone else's computer do this?
2) On the upper set of mouse keys (that you are supposed to use with the finger joystick pointer), the right button is crooked. It just doesn't fit exacly right in the space where it rests. Again, common problem, or just my machine?
Other than that, this machine is great. Thanks to this forum, I knew that I could get it by just putting my name as the "business" and ordering from the business customers' section of Dell's web site.
FYI, specs are: Vista Ultimate, Pentium Core Duo 1.20 GHz, 80 GB HD, 2 GB RAM, external DVD writer, standard and extended batteries, Office 2007 Basic, Bluetooth, 802.11g.
Funny fact: if you select the 9-cell (extended) battery as your main battery, and purchase an "extra" 6-cell (standard) battery, it is $10 cheaper than selecting the 6-cell as your main battery and adding the 9-cell. Doesn't make any sense because you get the exact same thing, but that's the way they price it!

Congrats on the system, as for the issues, they seem minor, but you could ask for a replacement if you feel you cant deal with them, or if they could pose larger problems in the future.
